Molecular Self-Assemblies for Nucleic Acids Detection

open access: yes
In recent decades, various kind of self-assembly structures ranging from oligonucleotides, polymers, peptides, protein nucleic acids, DNA and RNA assemblies to the combination of distinct type of materials and nanomaterials have appeared, and different ...

Similarity among the seven assemblies.

open access: yes, 2013
Pairwise comparison among seven assemblies. Row and column intersections indicated that the two assemblies were more similar.

Guiding AlphaFold to predict how Munc13‐1 opens Syntaxin‐1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The syntaxin‐1 Habc‐domain (orange), linker (pink) and SNARE motif (yellow) form a closed conformation that binds to Munc18‐1 (violet) and is opened by the Munc13‐1 MUN domain (cyan) to form the SNARE complex that triggers neurotransmitter release.

Chirality in Supramolecular Assemblies: causes and consequences

open access: yes, 2017
[Back Cover] Supramolecular chemistry deals with the organisation of molecules into defined assemblies using non-covalent interactions, including weaker and reversible interactions such as hydrogen bonds, and metal-ligand interactions.

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Formulated hydroxy fatty acids from fruit pomaces reduce apple scab development caused by Venturia inaequalis through a dual mode of action

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
The outermost hydrophobic layer of plants, i.e. the cuticle, is mainly composed of cutin, a polyester of hydroxy fatty acids with reported eliciting and/or antimicrobial activities for some of them.

Hyperosmotic stress‐induced redistribution of pre‐mRNA cleavage factor I subunits is associated with shifts in alternative polyadenylation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Hyperosmotic stress triggers the relocation of the CFIm complex from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. This shift creates a nuclear ‘stoichiometric bottleneck’, limiting CFIm availability for mRNA processing. Consequently, specific mRNAs like NUDT21 and DICER1 undergo targeted 3′UTR shortening, demonstrating how spatial protein dynamics drive rapid ...

P. antipodarum contig assemblies

open access: yes, 2012
Assemblies of reads from the transcriptome sequencing of two sexual and two asexual lineages of New Zealand snail Potamopyrgus antipodarum. Read assembly was carried out using the sotware MIRA3.

Exploring the influence of lactoferrin on wound healing and related signaling pathways: a systematic review

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Lactoferrin promotes wound healing by activating MAPK, PI3K/Akt, and extracellular matrix pathways, enhancing fibroblast remodeling, proliferation, and re‐epithelialization. These mechanisms highlight its therapeutic potential in inflammation control, tissue repair, and remodeling.

The EMC acts as a chaperone for membrane proteins

open access: yesNature Communications
Structure formation of membrane proteins is error-prone and thus requires chaperones that oversee this essential process in cell biology. The ER membrane protein complex (EMC) is well-defined as a transmembrane domain (TMD) insertase.
