Conditional Association

Neural Computation, 2012
Estimating conditional dependence between two random variables given the knowledge of a third random variable is essential in neuroscientific applications to understand the causal architecture of a distributed network. However, existing methods of assessing conditional dependence, such as the conditional mutual information, are computationally ...

Iterative Association

Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1965
A method of combining free word association with the engineering principles of servomechanisms is presented. It provides a focusing and amplifying of the word association test by incorporating S into a closed delayed feedback system in which he provides both the stimulus and the response words.

Associative Learning

1997
This chapter reviews evidence demonstrating the essential role of the cerebellum and its associated circuitry in the learning and memory of classical conditioning of discrete behavioral responses (e.g., eyeblink, limb flexion, head turn). It now seems conclusive that the memory traces for this basic category of associative learning are formed and ...

VATER Association

Neonatal Network, 2003
VATER ASSOCIATION WAS FIRST described in 1973 as a nonrandom group of related defects, as follows: V = vertebral defects, A = anal atresia, TE = tracheoesophageal fistula, R = radial limb dysplasia.1Since that time, various expansions of the acronym have been suggested in an effort to further define the scope of the VATER association.

CHARGE Association

Pediatrics, 1982
Bartoshesky et al1 reported a male infant with bilateral ocular coloboma, complex cardiac malformations, hypoplastic genitalia, unilateral microtia with an incompletely formed helix, facial asymmetry, and bilateral cleft lip and palate. They ascribed the etiology of the malformations to in utero diphenylhydantoin exposure.

Association Mapping

2011
Association mapping seeks to identify marker alleles present at significantly different frequencies in cases carrying a particular disease or trait compared with controls. Genome-wide association studies are increasingly replacing candidate gene-based association studies for complex diseases, where a number of loci are likely to contribute to disease ...
