Molecular and microscopical detection of aster yellows phytoplasma associated with infected parsnip
Microbiological Research, 2000Typical phytoplasma yellows symptoms were observed in parsnip (Pastinaca sativa L.) plants grown around Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Examination of ultrathin sections of leaf midribs by electron microscopy revealed numerous phytoplasma bodies localized in the phloem cells.

Influence of Aster Yellows Phytoplasma on the Fitness of Aster Leafhopper (Homoptera: Cicadellidae)
Annals of the Entomological Society of America, 2000This study revealed that feral aster leafhoppers, Macrosteles quadrilineatus Forbes, exposed to aster yellows phytoplasma live longer and may lay more eggs than nonexposed leafhoppers. Aster leafhoppers were reared on asters infected with either of 2 strains of aster yellows phytoplasma or uninfected asters.

The objective of the research was to asses if arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AM) can modify the effect of two aster yellows phytoplasma strains infection in tobacco plants. Tobacco plants experimentally inoculated with aster yellows phytoplasma strains did not develop visible disease symptoms.

Reclassification of aster yellows group phytoplasmas in Korea
Journal of General Plant Pathology, 2012Aster yellows group phytoplasmas were reclassified by analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequence, their phylogeny and the presence of interoperon heterogeneity. Nine phytoplasmas were classified into subgroups 16SrI-B and 16SrI-D using the 16S rRNA gene sequence.

Multilocus typing of aster yellows phytoplasmas infecting lettuce withyellowing in Calabria, Italy
Phytopathogenic Mollicutes, 2021Lettuce is an important vegetable crop commercially produced in many countries and affected by several bacterial diseases. The presence of phytoplasmas in lettuce plants growing in open field in Calabria region (Southern Italy) and showing yellowing and leaf necrosis was detected by PCR assays with primers amplifying 16S rRNA gene sequence.

Multigene Sequence Analysis of Aster Yellows Phytoplasma Associated with Primrose Yellows
Journal of Phytopathology, 2015AbstractPrimula acaulis (L.) Hill. plants showing stunting, leaf‐yellowing and virescence were first discovered in the Czech Republic. Polymerase chain reactions with subsequent restriction fragment length polymorphism analyses and sequencing enabled classification of the detected phytoplasmas into the aster yellows group, ribosomal subgroup 16SrI‐B ...

Multigene characterization of aster yellows phytoplasmas infecting grapevine in South Africa
Phytopathogenic Mollicutes, 2015The genetic diversity of aster yellows phytoplasmas in grapevine collected in two locations in South Africa (Vredendal and Robertson) was investigated by the use of multilocus analysis of gene sequences amplified by polymerase chain reaction. Based on results from restriction fragment length polymorphism profiling and nucleotide sequence alignments of ...

Occurrence and identification of aster yellows related phytoplasma in Gladiolus in Poland
Acta Physiologiae Plantarum, 1999In 1996–1998 on Gladiolus plants cultivated in Poland severe symptoms were observed. The symptoms included chlorosis of the youngest leaves, yellowing and malformation of flower spices, flower discoloration and virescence. The affected corms kept in cold storage developed premature multiple sprouts weak and pale in color.
