Asthma Does Not Always Have a Reversible Airflow Obstruction: A Case Study and a Family Physician Perspective

open access: yesProceedings of Singapore Healthcare, 2014
Asthma has traditionally been seen as a treatment-responsive and reversible inflammatory process, while COPD has been characterised by fixed airway narrowing and alveolar destruction not responsive to treatment. However, in the past two decades there has

The Clinical Characteristic and Prognostic Value of Frailty in Elderly COPD Patients

open access: yesJournal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle, Volume 17, Issue 5, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Objective Frailty, as one of the extrapulmonary comorbidities of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), is highly prevalent in COPD patients. The primary objective of this research was to assess how frailty influences subsequent exacerbation and augments the predictive capacity of dyspnoea or the exacerbation history ...

The asthma-COPD overlap syndrome: a new entity? [PDF]

open access: yesCOPD Research and Practice, 2015
Asthma and COPD are the most frequent chronic respiratory diseases. Although they have different characteristics, some individuals share features of both diseases, which has been called the asthma-COPD overlap syndrome (ACOS). Although there is not a universally accepted definition for ACOS, it was initially defined as symptoms of increased variability

From Real World Data to Real Impact: A Co‐Medication Framework for Lung Cancer to Advance DDI Assessment and Patient‐Centric Drug Development

open access: yesClinical and Translational Science, Volume 19, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Lung cancer predominantly affects older adults who already experience comorbidities and are at increased risk of drug–drug interactions (DDIs) due to polypharmacy. Traditional DDI assessments often do not fully capture complex co‐medication patterns observed in real‐world practice due to the risk of introducing confounding factors.

Updates in COPD Management: From Inflammatory Pathways to Targeted Therapies

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Investigation, Volume 56, Issue 10, October 2026.
COPD is a heterogeneous disease driven by overlapping neutrophilic and eosinophilic inflammatory pathways. This review highlights the shift from symptom‐based treatment toward phenotype‐ and biomarker‐directed care. Blood eosinophils, FeNO, and IgE predict corticosteroid responsiveness and identify candidates for biologic therapy.

Frailty and Fitness in Older Adults With Acute Myeloid Leukemia: From Chronological Age to Multiparametric Assessment

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Haematology, Volume 117, Issue 4, Page 787-798, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Acute Myeloid Leukemia predominantly affects older adults, who often present with comorbidities, functional impairment, and frailty, limiting eligibility for intensive chemotherapy or allogeneic transplantation. Historically, treatment options were restricted to hypomethylating agents, low‐dose cytarabine, hydroxyurea, or supportive care, with
