Efficacy of Combined 5-Fluorouracil and Photodynamic Therapy in Glioma Spheroids
Standard treatment regimens consisting of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy have proven ineffective for the treatment of high-grade gliomas such as glioblastoma multiforme (GBM).

Glioblastoma mortality is driven by cell invasion and therapeutic resistance. We report a cancer engineering approach to evaluate the behavior of heterogeneous cohorts of temozolomide resistant and responsive GBM cells. We show the effect of physiologically‐relevant metronomic dosing on ensemble drug response and invasion.

Prognostic Roles of Central Carbon Metabolism–Associated Genes in Patients With Low-Grade Glioma
Purpose: Metabolic alterations are crucial for tumor progression and response to therapy. The comprehensive model of combined central carbon metabolism–associated genes that contribute to the outcomes of glioma and astrocytoma is not well understood ...

Loss of miR-107, miR-181c and miR-29a-3p promote activation of Notch2 signaling in pediatric high-grade gliomas (pHGGs) [PDF]
The mechanisms by which microRNAs control pediatric high-grade gliomas (pHGGs) have yet to be fully elucidated. Our studies of patient-derived pHGG tissues and of the pHGG cell line KNS42 revealed down-regulation in these tumors of three microRNAs ...

Abstract Aim Mebendazole (MBZ), a benzimidazole anthelmintic with established clinical use, has emerged as a repurposing candidate for primary brain tumours due to its multimodal anticancer actions and central nervous system penetrance. This systematic review synthesizes preclinical and clinical evidence evaluating MBZ's efficacy, mechanisms of action ...

Whole tumor RNA-sequencing and deconvolution reveal a clinically-prognostic PTEN/PI3K-regulated glioma transcriptional signature [PDF]
The concept that solid tumors are maintained by a productive interplay between neoplastic and non-neoplastic elements has gained traction with the demonstration that stromal fibroblasts and immune system cells dictate cancer development and progression ...

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to identify branches of the trigeminal and facial nerves (FNs) relevant to surgical incisions and injections and the scalp block techniques in the frontotemporal region, and to determine their relationships with superficial vascular structures and bony landmarks.

Spinal Seeding of Cerebellar Pilocytic Astrocytoma and Spontaneous Regression of Tumor: a Case Report [PDF]
Cerebellar pilocytic Astrocytoma is a benign tumor, acounts for 80% of all cerebellar Astrocytoma, and has a relatively good prognosis. This tumor usually presents with Ataxia and in the case of hydrocephaly with raised intracranial pressure signs such ...

Quality of life (QoL) as predictive mediator variable for survival in patients with intracerebral neoplasma during radiotherapy [PDF]
Background: The prognosis for patients with malignant astrocytoma or brain metastases is often fatal despite intensive therapy. Therefore we wished to elucidate whether the quality of life (QoL) is a determinant of overall survival (OAS).

Neonatal Seizures in Tuberous Sclerosis Complex: A Case Series
ABSTRACT Background Epilepsy affects up to 90% of patients with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC); earlier seizure onset is associated with worse neurocognitive outcomes. The incidence of neonatal seizures in TSC is unknown, although in a recent multicenter trial 23% of infants with TSC were excluded prior to randomization because of pre‐existing ...
