Parametric Excitation with an Asymmetric Characteristic in a Self-exciting System

open access: yesBulletin of JSME, 1986
Behaviors of a self-exciting system of van der Pol type subjected to a parametric excitation are investigated. In the present paper the parametric excitation is expressed by the product of a nonlinear function of deflection with an asymmetric characteristic and a periodic function of time.

Scalable high-repetition-rate sub-half-cycle terahertz pulses from spatially indirect interband transitions

open access: yesLight: Science & Applications, 2022
We generate extremely asymmetric sub-half-cycle terahertz waveforms with scalable field strengths at megahertz pulse-repetition rates via ultrafast excitation of spatially indirect interband transitions in tailored quantum well heterostructures.

Transcranial magnetic stimulation: asymmetrical excitability and depression [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Psychiatry, 2000
Maeda et al ([2000][1]) have succeeded in demonstrating the interhemispheric asymmetry of motor cortical excitability in major depression, using transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). This is an important finding that raises questions not only about the pathophysiology of major depression ...

Excitation of Asymmetric Resonance with Symmetric Split-Ring Resonator

open access: yesMaterials, 2022
In this paper, a new approach to excite sharp asymmetric resonances using a single completely symmetric split-ring resonator (SRR) inside a rectangular waveguide is proposed. The method is based on an asymmetry in the excitation of a symmetric split-ring resonator by placing it away from the center of the waveguide along its horizontal axis. In turn, a

Asymmetric dual-grating gates graphene FET for detection of terahertz radiations

open access: yesAPL Photonics, 2020
A graphene-based field-effect-transistor with asymmetric dual-grating gates was fabricated and characterized under excitation of terahertz radiation at two frequencies: 0.15 THz and 0.3 THz.

Tunable Intrinsic Plasmons due to Band Inversion in Topological Materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The band inversion has led to rich physical effects in both topological insulators and topological semimetals. It has been found that the inverted band structure with the Mexican-hat dispersion could enhance the interband correlation leading to a strong ...

Dynamical Dipole mode in heavy-ion fusion reactions

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
The excitation of the Dynamical Dipole mode along the fusion path was investigated for the first time in the formation of a heavy compound nucleus in the A~190 mass region.

Temperature-Dependent Exciton Dynamics in a Single GaAs Quantum Ring and a Quantum Dot

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2022
Micro-photoluminescence was observed while increasing the excitation power in a single GaAs quantum ring (QR) at 4 K. Fine structures at the energy levels of the ground (N = 1) and excited (N = 2) state excitons exhibited a blue shift when excitation ...

Ground-State Phase Diagram of the XXZ Model on a Railroad-Trestle Lattice with Asymmetric Leg Interactions

open access: yes, 2006
Using the bosonization and level spectroscopy methods, we study the ground-state phase diagram of a XXZ antiferromagnet on a railroad-trestle lattice with asymmetric leg interactions.

Perfect excitation of a matter qubit by a single photon in free space [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We propose a scheme for perfect excitation of a single two-level atom by a single photon in free space. The photon state has to match the time reversed photon state originating from spontaneous decay of a two-level system.
