Liquid Crystal Elastomer Actuator Matrix for Large Area Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A scalable approach is used to manufacture a digitally‐controllable, 2D 5 × 5 actuator matrix. The elements of the matrix are produced by direct ink writing of a liquid crystal elastomer ‘artificial muscle’ on large‐area flexible thin‐film heaters. In optimizing the low‐power actuators, multiple heater designs and substrate materials are investigated ...

Parallel implementation of the aeh technique for the solution of plane multiphasic problems

open access: yesVetor, 2010
The Asymptotic Expansion Homogenization (AEH) technique is used to estimate the effective properties of heterogeneous media with periodical microstructure.

Magneto-electric coupling constants in piezoelectric/piezomaganetic layered composite

open access: yesNova Scientia, 2021
During the last few years, piezoelectric/piezomagnetic composites have been studied due to the numerous applications related to the coupling between these materials and the fields.

Tau Aggregate Imaging and Transcriptomics of Alzheimer's Disease Brain at Different Stages of Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The protein aggregates and gene expression in the middle temporal gyrus (MTG) and somatosensory cortex (SOM) of the postmortem brains of 13 Alzheimer's disease patients were studied in detail, revealing that small hyperphosphorylated tau aggregates increase with Braak stage driven by microglial inflammation.

Beyond‐Classical Ferroelectric Metamaterials: 3D‐Printed Planar Lattices With Programmable Electro–Thermo–Mechanical Coupling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Planar ferroelectric lattices with rationally‐tailored topology and polarization achieve programmable piezoelectric and pyroelectric properties. Analytical modeling, homogenization, and experiments collectively demonstrate enhanced and tunable longitudinal, transverse, and shear piezoelectric responses, together with substantially improved ...

Taxon‐dependent multisite species turnover in fragmented habitats: comparing zeta diversity across birds, butterflies, and cursorial hunting spiders

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Habitat fragmentation alters species diversity and reshapes community composition. However, conventional pairwise approaches to compositional variation (i.e. beta diversity metrics) do not explicitly characterize how species sharing or turnover change with the number of habitat patches.

Asymptotic equivalence of homogenisation procedures and fine-tuning of continuum theories [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Long-wave models obtained in the process of asymptotic homogenisation of structures with a characteristic length scale are known to be non-unique. The term non-uniqueness is used here in the sense that various homogenisation strategies may lead to ...

Hole transporting materials in inverted flexible perovskite solar cells: Challenges, progress, and perspectives

open access: yesFlexMat, EarlyView.
The buried interface is a critical determinant of efficiency and stability in inverted flexible perovskite solar cells (IFPSCs). This Perspective summarizes advances in hole transporting materials for IFPSCs, including polymeric, small‐molecule, inorganic, and hybrid systems, and discusses the prospects and feasibility of emerging molecular design and ...

Derivation of a macroscopic model for transport of strongly sorbed solutes in the soil using homogenization theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this paper we derive a model for the diffusion of strongly sorbed solutes in soil taking into account diffusion within both the soil fluid phase and the soil particles.

Explicit Methods for Inverse Source Identification in Transient Diffusion via Truncated Eigenfunction Regularization of Temperature Measurements

open access: yesHeat Transfer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This work presents and compares two explicit approaches for estimating space‐ and time‐dependent source terms in parabolic diffusion equations, derived from analytical solutions obtained through the Classical Integral Transform Technique (CITT).
