The Further You Are, the Closer You Get: Environmental Similarity Connects Aquatic Invertebrate Communities Across the Terrestrial Landscape in a Large River Network

Ecological connectivity in freshwater ecosystems can be structured by river network, the terrestrial geography, and environmental conditions. In the Lower Colorado River Basin, aquatic invertebrate communities are influenced by all three dynamics, and environmental heterogeneity is the strongest observed driver of community composition.

Temporal Persistence of Vertebrate Airborne Environmental DNA in a Natural Open‐Air Setting

Airborne detection of a single known DNA source under natural outdoor conditions ceased 3 days after source removal, indicating that airborne eDNA primarily reflects recent animal presence rather than a lasting trace. These findings offer key insights for optimizing field deployment of airborne eDNA sampling.
