Development and Genetic Monitoring of a Putatively Thiamine Deficiency Complex Tolerant Atlantic Salmon Broodstock

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
We introduce efforts to develop a potentially thiamine deficiency complex (TDC) tolerant Atlantic salmon broodstock via selective breeding, as well as control broodstock with higher genetic diversity (and no selection). Additionally, we develop the genetic monitoring tools (novel genetic marker panel, parentage‐based tagging) to monitor the demographic

Echoes of Evolution in Holocentridae: Harmony Between Phylogeny, Morphology and Acoustics

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
Using phylogenetic, morphological, and acoustic data from 53 species, we reconstructed the evolution of acoustic communication in nocturnal reef fishes of the family Holocentridae. Our results reveal two major clades with distinct sound‐producing morphologies and acoustic features, and suggest a three‐step diversification process involving the ...

The Sensory, Chemical and Microbiological Quality of Sous‐Vide Cooked Sea Bass (Dicentrarchus labrax Linneaus, 1758) With Liquid Smoke Flavor

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2026.
The processing of sea bass fillets, flavored with liquid smoke‐salt‐vegetable oil, using sous‐vide technology is an innovative method that both enhances organoleptic quality and ensures safe preservation. The fillets, which were flavored and vacuum‐sealed, were cooked at different temperatures and then transferred to cold storage following rapid ...

Beyond Tradition: An Integrated Toxicological, Ecological, and Public Health Perspective on Aristolochic Acids

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, Volume 46, Issue 8, Page 2599-2622, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Aristolochia species have long been used in traditional medicine for their presumed anti‐inflammatory, analgesic and antimicrobial properties. However, extensive toxicological and epidemiological evidence now demonstrates that these plants contain aristolochic acids (AAs) I and II, highly potent nephrotoxic, genotoxic, and carcinogenic ...

Eriope barrinhae (Lamiaceae, Hyptidinae), a new montane species from northern Minas Gerais, Brazil

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, Volume 2026, Issue 8, August 2026.
In northern Minas Gerais, in the Monte Azul region, the Pico da Formosa mountain remains poorly explored botanically despite recent discoveries of new taxa. During fieldwork at the summit of this mountain, we discovered a distinctive population of Eriope that differs from all known species by a unique combination of morphological characters.
