Traumatic Atlantoaxial Rotatory Subluxation and Dislocation

Spine, 1995
This is a retrospective single-patient case report with a literature review. To report on a neurologically intact adult with bilateral traumatic atlantoaxial rotatory subluxation/dislocation and associated facet fracture, and present a review of the literature.Unilateral rotatory dislocation is relatively common at the atlantoaxial articulation.

SPONTANEOUS ATLANTOAXIAL DISLOCATIONS

American Journal of Diseases of Children, 1942
In 1935 we 1 called attention to spontaneous atlantoaxial dislocations occurring in childhood. At that time we advanced some original concepts concerning the pathogenesis and mechanism of this condition and concerning the absence of symptoms referable to the spinal cord. We felt that these dislocations were all rotary and unilateral.

Posterior atlantoaxial dislocation without fracture

Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine, 2003
✓ Posterior dislocation of the atlas onto the axis without related fracture of the odontoid process is a very rare traumatic condition of which five cases have been previously reported. The authors present a sixth case in which management was different from the others.

Posterior atlantoaxial dislocation without odontoid fracture

Skeletal Radiology, 2008
We report a case of posterior atlantoaxial dislocation without a fracture of the odontoid in a 35-year-old woman. There have been nine reported cases of similar injury in the English literature. The integrity of the transverse ligament following posterior atlantoaxial dislocations has not been well documented in these reports.

Occipitoatlantal and atlantoaxial dislocation

Operative Techniques in Neurosurgery, 2004
Abstract Vertical distractive forces at the craniovertebral junction can affect the occipitoatlantal joint or the atlantoaxial joint. These lesions are part of the same spectrum of injuries. They share the same mechanism of injury and high mortality rate.

Symptomatic Atlantoaxial Dislocation in Down Syndrome

Pediatrics, 1982
Spinal cord compression secondary to atlantoaxial dislocation in Down syndrome is relatively uncommon. This case emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis and appropriate radiologic procedures.

Upward atlantoaxial dislocation in rheumatoid arthritis

Neuroradiology, 1974
Four cases of rheumatoid arthritis with osteoarticular lesions in the cervicooccipital region are reported. Changes in the connections of the odontoid process with the base of the skull are the consequence of important articular changes of destructive type involving the occipitocervical and C1–2 interspaces.

Symptomatic atlantoaxial dislocation in Down's syndrome

Annals of Neurology, 1987
AbstractFour patients with Down's syndrome suffered compression of the spinal cord secondary to atlantoaxial dislocation. All four developed inability to walk and quadriparesis, with signs of cervical myelopathy. It is important to recognize this potentially fatal complication of the syndrome.

Posterior atlantoaxial dislocation without associated fracture

Skeletal Radiology, 2002
We report on a 38-year-old man with post-traumatic posterior displacement of the atlas with respect to the axis without any associated fracture or neurological deficit caused by the displacement. Radiographs, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed posterior displacement of the atlas with the odontoid peg lying anterior ...
