In boreal winter, the El Niño/Southern Oscillation (ENSO)‐induced Pacific‐North American (PNA) teleconnection pattern is farther westward during La Niña relative to that in El Niño, causing discernible distinct climate implications.

Rogue waves in the atmosphere [PDF]
The appearance of rogue waves is well known in oceanographics, optics, and cold matter systems. Here we show a possibility for the existence of atmospheric rogue waves.

Passive scalar tracers in chaotic and turbulent atmosphere [PDF]
The notion of helical distributed chaos has been used for the description of the spatio-temporal dynamics of the passive scalar tracers from the atmospheric surface layer up to the mesosphere (at different stability conditions and different latitudes). Point, linear and distributed sources and sinks with different types of artificial and natural trace ...

Radiation-Hydrodynamics of Hot Jupiter Atmospheres [PDF]
Radiative transfer in planetary atmospheres is usually treated in the static limit, i.e., neglecting atmospheric motions. We argue that hot Jupiter atmospheres, with possibly fast (sonic) wind speeds, may require a more strongly coupled treatment, formally in the regime of radiation-hydrodynamics.

On the Dynamics of Atmospheric Bores
AbstractThe dynamics of a prototypical atmospheric bore are investigated through a series of two-dimensional numerical simulations and linear theory. These simulations demonstrate that the bore dynamics are inherently finite amplitude. Although the environment supports linear trapped waves, the supported waves propagate in roughly the opposite ...

The microstructure of Cr‐rich Cr‐Si‐alloys is maintained by alloying with Ge, Pt, and Mo. The effects of these elements on A15‐phase fraction, partitioning, microstructural stability, grain size, and hardness are combinable. Molybdenum is found to be the most promising alloying element for microstructural stability during high‐temperature exposure.

Reduced exposure to extreme precipitation from 0.5 °C less warming in global land monsoon regions
The populous global land monsoon region has been suffering from extreme precipitation. Here, the authors show that limiting global warming to 1.5 °C instead of 2 °C could reduce areal and population exposures to baseline once-in-20-year rainfall extremes

Atmospheric dynamics of terrestrial exoplanets over a wide range of orbital and atmospheric parameters [PDF]
The recent discoveries of terrestrial exoplanets and super-Earths extending over a broad range of orbital and physical parameters suggest that these planets will span a wide range of climatic regimes. Characterization of the atmospheres of warm super-Earths has already begun and will be extended to smaller and more distant planets over the coming ...

The Community Earth System Model (CESM) is widely used for the prediction and understanding of climate variability and change. Accurate simulation of the behavior of near surface air temperature (T2m) is critical in such a model for addressing societally
