The Cherenkov Telescope Array: Science Goals and Current Status [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) is the major ground-based gamma-ray observatory planned for the next decade and beyond. Consisting of two large atmospheric Cherenkov telescope arrays (one in the southern hemisphere and one in the northern hemisphere),

The anticancer effect of the HDAC inhibitor belinostat is enhanced by inhibitors of Bcl‐xL or Mcl‐1 in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The pan‐HDAC inhibitor belinostat increases the expression of the pro‐apoptotic proteins Bim, Puma, and Noxa and induces apoptosis in ovarian cancer cell lines and patient‐derived tumor organoids when used at high concentrations. Moreover, inhibiting the anti‐apoptotic proteins Bcl‐xL or Mcl‐1 sensitizes these preclinical models to the cytotoxic effect

Density Fluctuations in the Lower Thermosphere of Mars Retrieved From the ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) Aerobraking

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2019
The upper atmosphere of Mars is constantly perturbed by small-scale gravity waves propagating from below. As gravity waves strongly affect the large-scale dynamics and thermal state, constraining their statistical characteristics is of great importance ...

Dose‐dependent induction of epithelial‐mesenchymal transition in 3D melanoma models by non‐thermal plasma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Non‐thermal plasma treatment of melanoma cells induced epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in a dose‐dependent fashion. This report highlights the critical need to further investigate potential adverse effects of non‐thermal plasma for cancer therapy and to optimize treatment parameters for clinical translation. Despite the promising results of non‐

The Sub-Crustal Stress Field in the Taiwan Region

open access: yesTerrestrial, Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, 2015
We investigate the sub-crustal stress in the Taiwan region. A tectonic configuration in this region is dominated by a collision between the Philippine oceanic plate and the Eurasian continental margin.

Increased atmospheric vapor pressure deficit reduces global vegetation growth

open access: yesScience Advances, 2019
Global vegetation greening trend stalled after the late 1990s due to increased atmospheric water demand. Atmospheric vapor pressure deficit (VPD) is a critical variable in determining plant photosynthesis.

EUV Irradiance Inputs to Thermospheric Density Models: Open Issues and Path Forward

open access: yes, 2018
One of the objectives of the NASA LWS Institute on Nowcasting of Atmospheric Drag for LEO Spacecraft was to investigate whether and how to increase the accuracy of atmospheric drag models by improving the quality of the solar forcing inputs, namely ...

Molecular imaging predicts trastuzumab‐deruxtecan (T‐DXd) response in head and neck cancer xenograft models

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Trastuzumab‐deruxtecan, a HER2‐targeting antibody‐drug conjugate, shows promising antitumor activity in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma with low HER2 expression. In vitro and in vivo studies demonstrated dose‐dependent cell death and tumor growth reduction in low HER2‐expressing cell lines, which correlated with drug accumulation measured using a

Lorenz Energy Cycle: Another Way to Understand the Atmospheric Circulation on Tidally Locked Terrestrial Planets

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal, 2023
In this study, we employ and modify the Lorenz energy cycle (LEC) framework as another way to understand the atmospheric circulation on tidally locked terrestrial planets. It well describes the atmospheric general circulation in the perspective of energy

Loss of primary cilia promotes EphA2‐mediated endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in the ovarian tumor microenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of primary cilia in endothelial cells promotes EndMT and vascular abnormalities in the ovarian tumor microenvironment through EphA2 activation. Using human samples, in vitro models, and endothelial‐specific Kif3a‐knockout mice, we show that primary cilia loss drives the acquisition of cancer‐associated fibroblast‐like phenotypes, thereby ...
