Self-Organizing Maps: A Powerful Tool for the Atmospheric Sciences
Self-organizing maps (SOMs) are a powerful tool used to extract obscure diagnostic infor‐ mation from large datasets. In the context of issues related to threats from greenhouse-gasinduced global climate change, SOMs have recently found their way into ...

Ambiguity in the causes for decadal trends in atmospheric methane and hydroxyl
Significance Recent trends in atmospheric methane are not well understood as evidenced by multiple hypotheses proposed to explain the stabilization of methane concentrations in the early 2000s and the renewed growth since 2007. Here we use a multispecies

A Stochastic Diffusion Model of Climate Change [PDF]
We present a model for variations in atmospheric temperature from time scales of one day to one million years based on a stochastic diffusion (random walk) model of the turbulent transport of heat energy vertically in a coupled atmosphere-ocean model.

Remote sensing of clouds and aerosols with cosmic rays [PDF]
Remote sensing of atmosphere is conventionally done via a study of extinction / scattering of light from natural (Sun, Moon) or artificial (laser) sources. Cherenkov emission from extensive air showers generated by cosmic rays provides one more natural light source distributed throughout the atmosphere.

The growth rate of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2), the largest human contributor to human-induced climate change, is increasing rapidly. Three processes contribute to this rapid increase. Two of these processes concern emissions.
