The infrared transmission of atmospheric windows

Journal of the Franklin Institute, 1953
Abstract This paper describes an approach to the practical problem of infrared atmospheric transmission. It compares and relates published data from diverse investigations. The method separates water vapor band absorption, on which there appears to be general agreement, from the less tractable continuous attenuation by fog, haze, and smoke.

Extinction in the submillimeter atmospheric windows

Infrared Physics, 1976
Abstract We discuss the extinction of the earth's atmosphere at submillimeter wavelengths and the problems posed for ground-based observations. For observations in a submillimeter window with a band pass filter whose width is comparable to that of the window, the extinction law does not follow the usual exponential in airmass dependence.

Minimizing Thermal Emission in the Atmospheric Windows

Optical Interference Coatings, 2010
Thermal emission in the atmospheric windows represent a possibility for radiative exchange with the low temperatures in outer space. We investigate the opportunities for minimizing this by coating BeO with dielectric film of suitable thickness.

Expanding DSA process window with atmospheric control

Advances in Patterning Materials and Processes XXXVII, 2020
Directed Self Assembly (DSA) is a promising technology for complementary patterning in future nodes. As DSA patterning has continued to evolve there has been many efforts to improve defect performance using hardware, processes, and materials. Traditionally, in PS-b-PMMA block-copolymers (BCP) based patterning schemes, phase separation is achieved using

On selective absorption by atmospheric water vapor in the atmospheric window 1.6 m

[Conference Digest] International Conference on Millimeter Wave and Far-Infrared Technology: ICMWFT '90, 1989
Summary form only given, as follows. Some results of experimental investigations of the absorption spectrum in atmospheric water vapor with resolution of its rotational structure in the 8 to 13 m region are presented. Minimization methods have been used for finding absolute intensities and halfwidths of spectral lines.

Design of an ultrabroadband infrared metamaterial absorber in the atmospheric transparent window

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2022
In order to meet the demand for broadband absorbers in the infrared transparent window of the atmosphere, we designed an ultrabroadband metamaterial absorber (MA), which is composed of a germanium-zinc sulfide-chromium-zinc sulfide (Ge-ZnS-Cr-ZnS) disk periodic array and a chromium (Cr) bottom layer. In the infrared transparent window of the atmosphere,

Atmospheric Transmission in the 10–12 µm Window

Nature Physical Science, 1972
KNOWLEDGE of the transparency of the atmospheric window between 10 and 12 µm in the infrared is important for two principal reasons: first, because it lies near the peak of the black body spectrum at terrestrial temperatures, substantial amounts of radiative energy can be exchanged there, especially in the lower atmosphere; second, it is the most ...
