Absorption in the 220 GHz atmospheric window
IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 1973The atmospheric absorption spectrum in the 220 GHz window region is controlled primarily by the water vapor lines centered at 183.3 and 323.8 GHz. There are however, numerous other lines in the submillimeter part of the spectrum which contribute significantly to the losses.

Windows, atmospheres and experience in medieval Cypriot castles
2021Although often overlooked in archaeology, windows play an important role in past experiences of buildings. In this thesis I am aiming to understand the importance of windows to the experience of medieval Cypriot buildings. To do this I will develop the study of atmospheres as a methodology – initially used as an alternative to phenomenology in ...

The 8 to 14 μm window of the terrestrial atmosphere
1985 Tenth International Conference on Infrared and Millimeter Waves, 1985Continuum and line spectra of the terrestrial atmosphere in the 8 to 14 μm window are reviewed on the basis of in-situ measurements with airborne radiometers as well as with laser-photoacoustic spectroscopy in the laboratory.

Photodetection at 3.65 in the atmospheric window using heteroepitaxy
Semiconductor Science and Technology, 1996The photoconductive properties of layers deposited by organo metallic chemical vapour deposition (OMCVD) on GaAs substrates have been investigated through the characterization of a test photoconductor device. The spectral responses at 300 K and 77 K show that this material allows detection in the best region of transparency of the atmospheric window ...

Mesh filters for the Mm/Submm atmospheric windows
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2002The set of the band-pass freestanding metal mesh filters was developed for the spectral selection of the windows of the atmospheric transparency. The filter transmissions are more then 80%, the bandwidths are close to the widths of the atmospheric windows.

Internally cooled window for endo-atmospheric homing
Optical Society of America Annual Meeting, 1992The presentation presents an innovative approach to infrared (IR) sensor window and coolant hardware. The concept involves internal cooling of an advanced diamond film/ silicon window, a technique whose goal is to enhance the aero-optics performance by avoiding the turbulence and optical distortion induced by external film cooling injection.

The atmospheric windows at 6.3μ and 16 to 24 μ
Infrared Physics, 1962Abstract The atmospheric micro-window at 6.3 μ has been examined with grating resolution. The narrow region of transmission is characterized by ten absorption lines. The net emission of the earth's surface (thermocouple receiver) through the atmospheric window from 16 to 24 μ has been observationally compared with the net radiation loss through the ...

On the variability of the transmission coefficient of the atmospheric optical window
Il Nuovo Cimento C, 1989We use experimental data to show that the amplitudeA of the oscillations impressed upon upper atmospheric electrons by the electric field vectors of incident solar radiation increases with the solar energy wavelength λ over the visible spectrum. Calculations based upon experimental data show that the transmission coefficientT of the upper atmosphere ...

Atmospheric Absorption in the VAS Split-Window Channels
Journal of Applied Meteorology, 1988Abstract The Visible Infrared Spin-Scan Radiometer (VISSR) Atmospheric Sounder (VAS) split-window channels at 10–12.5 μm and 12.6–12.8 μm can be used to give measurements of sea surface temperature (SST) and precipitable water amount in the lower troposphere.

Infrared Absorption By Water Vapor In The Atmospheric Window
SPIE Proceedings, 1988The thermal infrared spectrum of water vapor beyond 8 pm consists of a fairly well-understood spectrum of rotational lines and an inadequately described continuum spectrum underlying the observed spectral lines. The contribution of the continuum absorption can be important in the calculations of the atmospheric radiative heating rates and of the net ...
