Atomic processes in astrophysics

Astrophysics and Space Science, 1996
We review the atomic processes responsible for astrophysical emission line spectra, paying particular attention to the reliability of the rates used to determine the physical conditions in the emitting gas. We discuss particular cases where often-neglected processes play important roles.

Atomicity and isolation for transactional processes

ACM Transactions on Database Systems, 2002
Processes are increasingly being used to make complex application logic explicit. Programming using processes has significant advantages but it poses a difficult problem from the system point of view in that the interactions between processes cannot be controlled using conventional techniques.

Energetics of Surface Atomic Processes

Surface Science, 1990
The energies needed in various surface atomic processes such as surface diffusion, binding of small atomic clusters on the surface, interaction between two adsorbed atoms, dissociation of an atom from a small cluster or from a surface layer, binding of kink site atoms or atoms at different adsorption sites to the surface etc.

Atomicity of batches in stream processing

Journal of Ambient Intelligence and Humanized Computing, 2017
Stream processing is about processing continuous streams of data by programs in a workflow. Continuous execution is discretized by grouping input stream tuples into batches and using one batch at a time for the execution of programs. As source input batches arrive continuously, several batches may be processed in the workflow simultaneously.
