Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Effect of external swirling air on flow field and morphological evolution of jatropha biodiesel spray

open access: yesFuel Processing Technology
Swirling atomization is an effective approach to improve atomization performance. The influence of swirling air on biodiesel spray and atomization characteristics was investigated via computational fluid dynamics simulations, focusing on the effects of ...

Machine Learning, Quantum Mechanics, and Chemical Compound Space

open access: yes, 2016
We review recent studies dealing with the generation of machine learning models of molecular and solid properties. The models are trained and validated using standard quantum chemistry results obtained for organic molecules and materials selected from ...

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...

Analysis of 5 KHz combustion instabilities in 40K methane/LOX combustion chambers [PDF]

open access: yes
In 40K methane/LOX 5 KHz engine tests, (first transverse mode) combustion instabilities observed by Rocketdyne are analyzed using Heidmann and Wieber's vaporization model to include LOX flow oscillations.

Atomization of broad specification aircraft fuels [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
The atomization properties of liquid fuels for the potential use in aircraft gas turbine engines are discussed. The significance of these properties are addressed with respect to the ignition and subsequent combustion behavior of the fuel spray/air ...

Norm-conserving pseudopotentials with chemical accuracy compared to all-electron calculations

open access: yes, 2013
By adding a non-linear core correction to the well established Dual Space Gaussian type pseudopotentials for the chemical elements up to the third period, we construct improved pseudopotentials for the Perdew Burke Ernzerhof (PBE) functional and ...

Quantitative proteomic analysis reveals different characteristics of bladder cancer cells after exposure to bisphenol A

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bisphenol A (BPA), a common chemical in plastics, exerts dual effects on bladder cancer cells: low doses promote growth and migration, while high doses suppress growth and migration. Multi‐omics and bioinformatics reveal BPA acts via MAPK and inflammatory pathways.

Rapid screening of staphylokinase protein variants using an unpurified cell‐free expression system

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An unpurified cell‐free protein synthesis (CFPS) platform enables rapid functional screening of staphylokinase variants. Direct plasminogen‐activation assays performed in microplate format provide real‐time activity readouts, allowing rapid identification and ranking of variants with improved or reduced fibrinolytic activity without protein ...
