Abstract Larval attachment organs (LAOs) are unicellular or multicellular organs that enable the larvae of many actinopterygian fishes to adhere to a substrate before yolk‐sac absorption and the free‐swimming stage. Bowfins (Amiiformes) exhibit a sizable LAO on the snout, which was first described in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Current Advances and Challenges in Fisheries and Aquaculture Science: Feature Papers for the New Journey of Fishes [PDF]
This addresses current advances and challenges in fisheries and aquaculture science. Exposure of larval fish to elevated temperatures during embryological development may induce craniofacial and morphological alterations, which are suggested possible ...

Gut Microbiome Analysis In Adult Tropical Gars (Atractosteus tropicus) [PDF]
AbstractTropical gar (Atractosteus tropicus), is freshwater and estuarine fish that has inhabited the Earth since the Mesozoic era, undergoing limited physiological variation ever since. This omnivorous fish is endemic to southern Mexico and part of Central America.

AbstractDue to recent population declines in tropical gar (Atractosteus tropicus), a greater understanding of its population structure is needed. A key step in gaining this understanding is the development of microsatellite loci for use in this species. For this purpose, 33 microsatellite loci from alligator gar (A.

Nutritional programming in tropical gar: effect of cornstarch on blood parameters [PDF]

Cardiorespiratory physiological phenotypic plasticity in developing air-breathing anabantid fishes (Betta splendens and Trichopodus trichopterus) [PDF]
Articulo CientificoDevelopmental plasticity of cardiorespiratory physiology in response to chronic hypoxia is poorly understood in larval fishes, especially larval airbreathing fishes, which eventually in their development can at least partially “escape ...

Larval feeding studies of both ornamental and consumable fish species are important for formulating successful management, and culture strategies for conservation purposes. In the present study, we evaluated prey selectivity for the tropical gar Atractosteus tropicus in the larval stage (first 8 weeks) using the zooplankton Artemia fransiscana, Daphnia
