Atrial natriuretic peptide in the fetus. [PDF]
Comment This study showed an unexpectedly high rate (10%) of allergic contact dermatitis to transdermal hyoscine in healthy men treated for several months. Allergic contact dermatitis (type IV delayed hypersensitivity) was diagnosed by well established clinical criteria and was further confirmed by the absence ofany reaction to a placebo patch.

We sought to characterize natriuretic peptide levels in a cohort of rigorously characterized subjects with lone atrial fibrillation (AF).Atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) are sensitive biomarkers of cardiac contractile dysfunction.

Atrial natriuretic peptide in heart failure
Atrial natriuretic peptide hormone of cardiac origin, which is released in response to atrial distension and serves to maintain sodium homeostasis and inhibit activation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. Congestive heart failure is a clinical syndrome characterized by increased cardiac volume and pressure overload with an inability to ...

Natriuretic peptides and atrial fibrillation.
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia in the medical practice, it is associated with an increased total and cardiovascular mortality, as well as cardiovascular morbidity, including stroke and heart failure. AF is encountered in different medical specialties including cardiology, family medicine and emergency medicine as well. Treatment

Atrial Natriuretic Peptide in Habitual Snorers
We studied nocturnal and early morning variations in the concentration of plasma atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) in 17 men who habitually snored. The subjects had a mean age of 51.0 +/- 5.8 years, range 41-62 y with a mean body mass index (BMI) of 32.9 +/- 7.3 kg/m2. The concentration of plasma ANP was measured by radioimmunoassay of venous samples at

Atrial natriuretic peptide in the heart and pancreas.
We used antisera to pure atrial natriuretic peptide to localise this peptide by immunocytochemistry in rat and human tissue. We showed that both rat and human atrial cardiocytes gave a positive reaction while ventricular cardiocytes were consistently negative. Peripheral islet cells in rat but not in human pancreas also showed positive staining for ANP.

Journal of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia, 1989
This report has reviewed some of the cardiovascular aspects of ANP. The emergence of the heart as an endocrine organ requires that numerous questions be asked with regard to the importance of ANP to anesthesia and surgery. It is clear that the interaction of the hormone with other vasoactive compounds, including anesthetic agents, requires further ...

Atrial natriuretic peptide in man
American Journal of Nephrology, 1988The heart is the major source of atrial natriuretic peptides (ANP). A propeptide is stored in atrial myocytes. In normal humans, atrial distension secondary to volume overload and/or increased atrial pressures are thought to stimulate the secretion of biologically active alpha-ANP (ANF-[99-126], 28 amino residues) into the circulation.
