Identification of atropine-and P2X1 receptor antagonist-reistant, neurogenic contractions of the urinary bladder [PDF]
Acetylcholine and ATP are excitatory cotransmitters in parasympathetic nerves. We used P2X1 receptor antagonists to further characterize the purinergic component of neurotransmission in isolated detrusor muscle of guinea pig urinary bladder.

The Invalidity of the Laplace Law for Biological Vessels and of Estimating Elastic Modulus from Total Stress vs. Strain: a New Practical Method [PDF]
The quantification of the stiffness of tubular biological structures is often obtained, both in vivo and in vitro, as the slope of total transmural hoop stress plotted against hoop strain. Total hoop stress is typically estimated using the "Laplace law."

Intestinal Electric Stimulation Accelerates Whole Gut Transit and Promotes Fat Excrement in Conscious Rats [PDF]
*_Introduction:_* Intestinal electric stimulation (IES) is proposed as a potential tool for the treatment of morbid obesity. Our previous study showed that IES with one pair of electrodes accelerated intestinal transit and decreased fat absorption in a ...

Neuroprotective Effects of Antidotes in Soman-Poisoned Rats
1. The neuroprotective effects of antidotes (atropine, obidoxime/atropine mixture, HI-6/atropine mixture) on rats poisoned with soman at a sublethal dose (48 μg/kg i.m.; 60% of LD50 value) were studied.

Biological Mechanisms of Atropine Control of Myopia
: Myopia is a global problem that is increasing at an epidemic rate in the world. Although the refractive error can be corrected easily, myopes, particularly those with high myopia, are susceptible to potentially blinding eye diseases later in life ...

Swallowing Disorder and Inhibition of Cough Reflex Induced by Atropine Sulfate in Conscious Dogs
In this study, the effects of atropine sulfate (atropine) on swallowing and cough reflex were evaluated in the two experimental models in conscious dogs.

Anticholinergic therapy for acute asthma in children. [PDF]
Inhaled anticholinergics as single agent bronchodilators (or in combination with beta(2)-agonists) are one of the several medications available for the treatment of acute asthma in ...

Comparison of inhaled atropine sulphate and atropine methonitrate [PDF]
The bronchodilator potencies of inhaled atropine sulphate and atropine methonitrate have been compared either alone or in combination with fenoterol in a group of adult asthmatic patients. A cumulative dose response study showed that 2 mg of atropine sulphate produced near maximum bronchodilatation.

Introduction Myopia is a major cause of degenerative eye disease and increases the risk of secondary visual impairment. Mitigating its progression therefore has great potential of clinically relevant benefit as shown by using highly diluted atropine eye ...
