Measurement and Modeling of High‐Frequency Acoustic Properties in Fine Sandy Sediments

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, 2019
The object of this study was to obtain the acoustic properties of fine sandy sediments with approximately 22% clay content from the East China Sea Shelf.

The Neutralizing Antibody Response Elicited by Tembusu Virus Is Affected Dramatically by a Single Mutation in the Stem Region of the Envelope Protein

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
Tembusu virus (TMUV) is a mosquito-borne flavivirus that most commonly affects adult breeder and layer ducks. However, a TMUV-caused neurological disease has also been found in ducklings below 7 weeks of age, highlighting the need to develop a safe ...

Attenuation modified by DIG and dust as seen in M31

open access: yes, 2017
The spatial distribution of dust in galaxies affects the global attenuation, and hence inferred properties, of galaxies. We trace the spatial distribution of dust in five fields (at 0.6-0.9 kpc scale) of M31 by comparing optical attenuation with the ...

Comparative studies of the rain attenuation predictions for tropical regions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The radio waves propagating through the earth atmosphere will be attenuated due to the presence of atmosphere particles, such as water vapor, water drops and the ice particles.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Screening of Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis Mutants for Attenuation in a Bovine Monocyte-Derived Macrophage Model

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2014
Vaccination remains a major tool for prevention and progression of Johne’s disease, a chronic enteritis of ruminants worldwide. Currently there is only one licensed vaccine within the United States and two vaccines licensed internationally against Johne’

Dust Attenuation Curves in the Local Universe: Demographics and New Laws for Star-forming Galaxies and High-redshift Analogs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We study dust attenuation curves of 230,000 individual galaxies in the local universe, ranging from quiescent to intensely star-forming systems, using GALEX, SDSS, and WISE photometry calibrated on Herschel-ATLAS.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Anaerobic Bioremediation of Groundwater Containing High Concentrations of cis-1,2-Dichloroethene Using Solid Amendments

open access: yesRevista Águas Subterrâneas, 2013
A ruptured degreaser introduced trichloroethylene (TCE) into groundwater at an industrial facility in Stephenville, TX. Groundwater near the source zone (30m by 15m) had TCE concentrations near 500 mg/L, suggesting that un-dissolved contaminant was ...

Sound attenuation apparatus [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
An apparatus is disclosed for reducing acoustic transmission from mechanical or acoustic sources by means of a double wall partition, within which an acoustic pressure field is generated by at least one secondary acoustic source.
