A Bohr-type model with gravity as the attractive force [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We formulate a Bohr-type rotating particle model for three light particles of the same rest mass, forming a bound rotational state under the influence of their gravitational attraction, in the same way that electrostatic attraction leads to the formation

Van der Waals torque and force between anisotropic topological insulator slabs

open access: yes, 2018
We investigate the character of the van der Waals (vdW) torque and force between two coplanar and dielectrically anisotropic topological insulator (TI) slabs separated by a vacuum gap in the non-retardation regime, where the optic axes of the slabs are ...

Coaxial Atomic Force Microscope Tweezers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We demonstrate coaxial atomic force microscope (AFM) tweezers that can trap and place small objects using dielectrophoresis (DEP). An attractive force is generated at the tip of a coaxial AFM probe by applying a radio frequency voltage between the center

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Disc-shaped LIM for levitation and traction force control powered by the source using the component synchronous with the motor speed

open access: yesArchives of Electrical Engineering, 2015
It has been proposed that a novel maglev transport system uses both of the attractive force and thrust force of the Linear Induction Motor (LIM). In our proposal, these two forces will be controlled by two different frequency components.

A Theoretical Method for Designing Thin Wobble Motor Using an Electromagnetic Force and an Electropermanent Magnet for Application in Portable Electric Equipment

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
The thin wobble motors that are required to hold rating shafts employ an electropermanent magnet. This turns the holding force on and off by applying a momentary electrical pulse. To design the magnet devices without the need for finite element analyses,

Local spectroscopy and atomic imaging of tunneling current, forces and dissipation on graphite [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Theory predicts that the currents in scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and the attractive forces measured in atomic force microscopy (AFM) are directly related. Atomic images obtained in an attractive AFM mode should therefore be redundant because they

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.
