Process dynamics in delay discounting decisions: An attractor dynamics approach [PDF]

open access: yesJudgment and Decision Making, 2016
How do people make decisions between an immediate but small reward and a delayed but large one? The outcome of such decisions indicates that people discount rewards by their delay and hence these outcomes are well described by discounting functions ...

Timing of transients: quantifying reaching times and transient behavior in complex systems

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2017
In dynamical systems, one may ask how long it takes for a trajectory to reach the attractor, i.e. how long it spends in the transient phase. Although for a single trajectory the mathematically precise answer may be infinity, it still makes sense to ...

Applied symbolic dynamics: attractors and filtrations

open access: yesDiscrete and Continuous Dynamical Systems, 1999
The paper is devoted to the structure of attractors without any preliminary information about the system. The investigation is based on the methods of symbolic dynamics and all necessary information is obtained by numerical methods. Using a covering of phase space by cells the dynamical system is associated with an oriented graph called symbolic image ...

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Learning to Generate Sequences with Combination of Hebbian and Non-hebbian Plasticity in Recurrent Spiking Neural Networks

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2017
Synaptic Plasticity, the foundation for learning and memory formation in the human brain, manifests in various forms. Here, we combine the standard spike timing correlation based Hebbian plasticity with a non-Hebbian synaptic decay mechanism for training

UiO‐66 metal–organic frameworks in biomedicine: From structural tunability to bioimaging, photodiagnostics, and photodynamic cancer therapy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UiO‐66(Zr) metal–organic frameworks are chemically stable, biocompatible, and highly tunable nanomaterials. Their modular structure enables controlled drug delivery, multimodal bioimaging, and light‐activated photodynamic therapy, supporting integrated diagnostic and therapeutic (theranostic) applications in cancer and biomedical research.

Landmark-Based Updating of the Head Direction System by Retrosplenial Cortex: A Computational Model

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2018
Maintaining a sense of direction is fundamental to navigation, and is achieved in the brain by a network of head direction (HD) cells, which update their signal using stable environmental landmarks.

Asymptotic Dynamics in the Heisenberg Picture: Attractor Subspace and Choi-Effros Product

open access: yes
We study the asymptotic dynamics of open quantum systems in the Heisenberg picture. We find an explicit expression for the attractor subspace and the dynamics that takes place in it.

From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.

Architectural constraints are a major factor reducing path integration accuracy in the rat head direction cell system

open access: yesFrontiers in Computational Neuroscience, 2015
Head direction cells fire to signal the direction in which an animal's head is pointing. They are able to track head direction using only internally-derived information (path integration).
