Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Asymptotic behavior for non-autonomous stochastic plate equation on unbounded domains

open access: yesOpen Mathematics, 2019
We study the asymptotic behavior of solutions to the non-autonomous stochastic plate equation driven by additive noise defined on unbounded domains.

Prevalence of Milnor Attractors and Chaotic Itinerancy in 'High'-dimensional Dynamical Systems

open access: yes, 2003
Dominance of Milnor attractors in high-dimensional dynamical systems is reviewed, with the use of globally coupled maps. From numerical simulations, the threshold number of degrees of freedom for such prevalence of Milnor attractors is suggested to be $5

Molecular bases of circadian magnesium rhythms across eukaryotes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circadian rhythms in intracellular [Mg2+] exist across eukaryotic kingdoms. Central roles for Mg2+ in metabolism suggest that Mg2+ rhythms could regulate daily cellular energy and metabolism. In this Perspective paper, we propose that ancestral prokaryotic transport proteins could be responsible for mediating Mg2+ rhythms and posit a feedback model ...

Megastability: Coexistence of a countable infinity of nested attractors in a periodically-forced oscillator with spatially-periodic damping

open access: yes, 2017
In this paper, we describe a periodically-forced oscillator with spatially-periodic damping. This system has an infinite number of coexisting nested attractors, including limit cycles, attracting tori, and strange attractors.

Doubling the coexisting attractors.

open access: yesChaos, 2019
When the offset boosting technique is introduced into a chaotic system for attractor shifting, the number of coexisting attractors in the system can be doubled under the application of the employed absolute-value function.

Disordered but rhythmic—the role of intrinsic protein disorder in eukaryotic circadian timing

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Unstructured domains known as intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) are present in nearly every part of the eukaryotic core circadian oscillator. IDRs enable many diverse inter‐ and intramolecular interactions that support clock function. IDR conformations are highly tunable by post‐translational modifications and environmental conditions, which ...

Critical Kauffman networks under deterministic asynchronous update

open access: yes, 2007
We investigate the influence of a deterministic but non-synchronous update on Random Boolean Networks, with a focus on critical networks. Knowing that ``relevant components'' determine the number and length of attractors, we focus on such relevant ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...
