Automatic and Intrinsic Auditory "What” and "Where” Processing in Humans Revealed by Electrical Neuroimaging [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The auditory system includes 2 parallel functional pathways—one for treating sounds' identities and another for their spatial attributes (so-called "what” and "where” pathways).

Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring for Endoscopic Endonasal Approaches to the Skull Base: A Technical Guide. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring during endoscopic, endonasal approaches to the skull base is both feasible and safe. Numerous reports have recently emerged from the literature evaluating the efficacy of different neuromonitoring tests during

Discovering Interpretable Semantics from Radio Signals for Contactless Cardiac Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a semantic representation framework for clinically interpretable cardiac monitoring from contactless radio signals. It formulates radio semantic learning as an information‐bottleneck problem and approximates the objective via intra‐modal compression and cross‐modal alignment, structuring radio measurements into meaningful semantic ...

Influência dos contrastes de fala nos potenciais evocados auditivos corticais The influence of speech stimuli contrast in cortical auditory evoked potentials

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Otorhinolaryngology, 2013
Estudos voltados aos potenciais evocados auditivos com estímulos de fala em indivíduos ouvintes são importantes para compreender como a complexidade do estímulo influencia nas características do potencial cognitivo auditivo gerado. OBJETIVO: Caracterizar

Origin of symbol-using systems: speech, but not sign, without the semantic urge [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Natural language—spoken and signed—is a multichannel phenomenon, involving facial and body expression, and voice and visual intonation that is often used in the service of a social urge to communicate meaning.

Descending Auditory Pathway

open access: yesPractica Oto-Rhino-Laryngologica, 1964
The literatures pertinent to the auditory efferent pathways, particularly to their central part, were reviewed. Most of the auditory efferent pathways originate from the primary anditory area. The efferent auditory pathways run all the way with the auditory afferent pathways, untill they are connected with the Rasmussen's olivo-cochlear bundle.

Distinct Biotypes of Visual Perception in Major Depressive Disorder

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In a discover dataset (272 acute MDD patients), this work identifies a novel depression biotype characterized by impaired visual motion perception, using machine learning clustering. An independent dataset confirms the robustness of this biotype through cross‐validation and demonstrates its generalizability.

Neuromodulator Dynamics Underlying Associative Learning in the Ventral Striatum's Olfactory Tubercle

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using fiber photometry and genetically encoded sensors, the dynamic release patterns of four neuromodulators in the olfactory tubercle (OT)—a brain region overlapping with the olfactory cortex and ventral striatum—were systematically monitored in response to external rewards and distinct reward‐associated learning processes.

Central auditory system assessment in children and adolescents with cystic fibrosis: electrophysiology and central auditory processing

open access: yesJornal de Pediatria
Objective: This study aims to evaluate the central auditory system of children and adolescents with cystic fibrosis through behavioral assessment of central auditory processing and electrophysiological tests to investigate short and long-latency auditory
