A low‐carbon (0.23 wt%) carbide‐free bainitic steel is successfully developed with a total alloying addition of 4.9 wt%, which is relatively lower than alloying additions reported in similar category of steels. The present findings indicate that the currently designed low‐alloy steel composition is amenable to generation of nearly carbide‐free bainitic

Multiphase Ausformed Austempered Ductile Iron [PDF]
AbstractDuctile iron was subjected to a total true strain (φt) of 0.3 either by applying φtin the austenite region or by apportioning it through applying a true strain of 0.2 in the austenite region before quenching to austempering temperature (TA) of 375°C, where a true strain of 0.1 is applied (ausforming).

The Effect of Cryogenic Treatment on W360 and E38K Hot Work Tool Steels
The cryogenic treatment facilitates the transformation of retained austenite to martensite to an undetectable limit, with about 3 times higher amount of the carbide precipitation for both steel types. Both steel types exhibit almost similar impact energy values at room temperature, but E38K steel has 2 times higher energy at 350 °C.

Determining Factors of Grain Size in Bainite Structure of Fe–2Mn–C Alloys
The crystallographic variants and effective grain sizes of bainitic ferrite in Fe–2Mn–C alloys with various carbon contents are determined by local orientation measurements. Decrease in transformation temperature is beneficial for grain refinement of bainite structure although effects of carbon content are different between low‐carbon and high‐carbon ...

Austempered Materials for Powertrain Applications [PDF]
Abstract Austempered irons and steels offer the design engineer alternatives to conventional material/process combinations. Depending on the material and the application, Austempering may provide the following benefits to producers of powertrain components like gears and shafts: ease of manufacturing, increased bending and/or contact ...

Bainitic Transformation and Properties of Low Carbon Carbide-Free Bainitic Steels with Cr Addition
Two low carbon carbide-free bainitic steels (with and without Cr addition) were designed, and each steel was treated by two kinds of heat treatment procedure (austempering and continuous cooling).
