Authoritarianism and Projection

To extend the 1995 work of McCollaum and Lester, 378 undergraduate students were administered the conservatism scale of the Wilson-Patterson Attitude Inventory and the projection scale of the Defense Style Questionnaire-40. No significant association was found between scores on conservatism and projection.

Authoritarian Liberalism as Authoritarian Constitutionalism

Authoritarian liberalism captures the combination of politically authoritarian forms of governing in defence and pursuit of economically liberal ends. It is a phenomenon often associated with periods of economic crisis, such as the recent Euro-crisis. This paper suggests, however, that authoritarian liberalism is less exceptional than normal.

A preliminary study investigating the relationship between authoritarianism and self-reported fear was conducted Significant correlations were found between scores on the Right-Wing Authoritarianism Scale and the Fear Perception Index. Theoretical explanations for the relationship were explored using assumptions drawn from evolutionary psychology.
