A guide to the types, structures, and multifaceted functions of matrix metalloproteinases in cancer
Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) orchestrate cancer progression and metastasis through proteolytic and non‐proteolytic actions. By remodeling the tumor microenvironment, enhancing growth factor availability, and modulating cell behavior, MMPs promote proliferation, migration or invasion, and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition. Alongside extracellular

ABSTRACT Ethylene plays a crucial role in fruit ripening and is perceived by specialised receptor proteins embedded in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membrane. As an ethylene antagonist, 1‐methylcyclopropene (1‐MCP) binds to these receptors and delays papaya ripening, but improper use can cause ripening disorders.

Exposure to artificial light at night (ALAN), particularly at blue wavelengths, disrupts circadian rhythms by suppressing melatonin, thereby increasing cancer susceptibility. This systematic review consolidates evidence linking prolonged ALAN exposure to an elevated risk of breast and prostate tumors.

Lifestyle modification in atrial fibrillation: Mechanisms, phenotypes and ablation outcomes
Abstract Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most prevalent sustained cardiac arrhythmia and is associated with significant morbidity, mortality and healthcare utilization. Catheter ablation is increasingly used as a rhythm‐control intervention for patients with symptomatic paroxysmal and persistent AF, yet recurrence rates remain suboptimal.

The return of metabolism: biochemistry and physiology of glycolysis
ABSTRACT Glycolysis is a fundamental metabolic pathway central to the bioenergetics and physiology of virtually all living organisms. In this comprehensive review, we explore the intricate biochemical principles and evolutionary origins of glycolytic pathways, from the classical Embden–Meyerhof–Parnas (EMP) pathway in humans to various prokaryotic and ...

Fruit respiration: putting alternative pathways into perspective
Summary Over the past century, research has significantly advanced our understanding of fruit respiration, from (eco)physiological processes to molecular mechanisms. This review focuses on the functional relevance and regulatory roles of mitochondrial alternative respiratory pathways (ARPs) during fruit growth and ripening.

Quantitative interpretation of martensite microstructure
This work reviews issues and advances a formalism for quantitative interpretation of martensite microstructure, heeding the influence of transformation uniformity and the interaction of martensite with its surroundings.

Weber's Law in Autocatalytic Reaction Networks
Biological responses often obey Weber's law, according to which the magnitude of the response depends only on the fold change in the external input. In this study, we demonstrate that a system involving a simple autocatalytic reaction shows such response when a chemical is slowly synthesized by the reaction from a faster influx process.
