Targeting interleukin-6 in autoimmune uveitis

Autoimmunity Reviews, 2017
Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a key cytokine that is strongly up-regulated during infection and inflammation. Featuring pleiotropic activity, IL-6 is responsible for the induction of hepatic acute-phase proteins, trafficking of acute and chronic inflammatory cells, differentiation of adaptive T cell responses, homeostatic regulation, and tissue regeneration.

Tregs in Autoimmune Uveitis

2021
Uveitis is a chronic disease with relapsing and remitting ocular attack, which requires corticosteroids and systemic immunosuppression to prevent severe vision loss. Classically, uveitis is referred to an autoimmune disease, mediated by pro-inflammatory Th17 cells and immunosuppressive CD4+CD25+FoxP3+ T-regulatory cells (Tregs).
