Why automate optical inspection?
Proceedings International Test Conference 1997, 2002It is suggested that automated optical inspection (AOI) competes effectively to fill the in-circuit test gap. AOI adds no unwelcome technologies to the workplace. Its programming and its results are simple and understandable in visual terms. AOI is thus considered high in strength, simplicity and universality.

Automated capsule inspection method
Pattern Recognition, 1981Abstract This method is based on the measurement of quantities associated with features in the projection of a capsule under inspection, such as head roundness, joint collinearity, area and length of the projection, and on the comparison of them with those in a standard projection.

A two-stage CNN for automated tire defect inspection in radiographic image
Measurement science and technology, 2021Visual inspection plays a crucial role during the manufacturing of tires which are essential for safe driving. Due to complicated anisotropic multi-texture background and ambiguous defect in it, automated tire defect detection is facing huge challenges ...

Automated inspection of machine parts
[1992] Proceedings. 11th IAPR International Conference on Pattern Recognition, 2003Describes a CAD-model-based machine vision system for dimensional inspection of machined parts, with emphasis on the theory behind the system. The original contributions of the work are: the use of precise definitions of geometric tolerances suitable for use in image processing, the development of measurement algorithms corresponding directly to these ...

A Survey of Automated Visual Inspection
Computer Vision and Image Understanding, 1995In this paper, we survey the automated visual inspection systems and techniques that have been reported in the literature from 1988 to 1993. Several earlier systems are also discussed. In the survey, a taxonomy of inspection systems based on their sensory input is presented.

Automated Refinement of Automated Visual Inspection Algorithms
IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering, 2009One of the challenges faced by the users of automated visual inspection (AVI) systems is how to efficiently upgrade the legacy systems to inspect the new components introduced into the assembly lines. If the AVI systems are not flexible enough to accommodate new components, they will be rendered obsolete even by small changes in the product being ...

An Evaluation of Inspection Automation Tools
2002A key element in manufacturing quality software is the early detection of defects which can be fostered by inspection techniques. Inspections may be boosted by automated tools that help in various tasks during the whole inspection process. We present a framework for inspection automation tool evaluation and use it to evaluate four tools.

Advances in inspection automation
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2013This new session at QNDE reflects the growing interest in inspection automation. Our paper describes a newly developed platform that makes the complex NDE automation possible without the need for software programmers. Inspection tasks that are tedious, error-prone or impossible for humans to perform can now be automated using a form of drag and drop ...
