Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Automated versus human scoring of the Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure Test: a rapid review

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychiatry
IntroductionDespite digital advances in healthcare, clinical neuropsychology has been slow to adopt automated assessment tools. Automated scoring of the Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure Test (ROCFT) could enhance efficiency and consistency in evaluating ...

Automated credit decision process - an insight into developing a credit-scoring model within the Nepalese banking sector

open access: yes, 2012
There has been significant growth post-2000 in consumer credit within transition economies. Credit scoring, established within Western institutions, has the potential to be used to assess consumer creditworthiness here. This paper presents challenges and

Dual PI3K/AKT and CDK4/6 inhibition reveals selective sensitivity in an SHH medulloblastoma stem cell model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Targeted therapy was evaluated in SHH medulloblastoma using neuroepithelial stem cell (NES) and tumor‐derived NES‐like (tNES) models in 2D monolayers and 3D spheroids. PI3K, AKT, and CDK4/6 inhibitors had minimal effects in NES but markedly reduced viability and growth and induced apoptosis in tNES cells, revealing distinct therapeutic vulnerabilities.

Automated Essay Scoring: A Literature Review

open access: yesWorking Papers in Applied Linguistics and TESOL, 2015
In recent decades, large-scale English language proficiency testing and testing research have seen an increased interest in constructed-response essay-writing items (Aschbacher, 1991; Powers, Burstein, Chodorow, Fowles, & Kukich, 2001; Weigle, 2002). The

Automated Scoring of Sleep in the Neonatal Lamb [PDF]

open access: yesSleep, 1995
The study of sleep is an important and rapidly expanding area of research that generates large bodies of data. Manual scoring of sleep states from polygraph recordings is a laborious and often subjective task. Even when care is taken, the opportunity for disagreement between investigators and between laboratories remains great. To avoid this difficulty

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...
