Radiobiological Models in (Automated) Treatment Planning

2019
Automated planning can be used for the generation of plans with consistent high quality. Automation in planning may relieve or resolve some of the issues mentioned in the previous list, resulting in more consistent and higher plan quality with reduced operator dependence, and substantially reduced manual labour.

Automation of radiation treatment planning

Strahlentherapie und Onkologie, 2017
Intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) techniques are now standard practice. IMRT or volumetric-modulated arc therapy (VMAT) allow treatment of the tumor while simultaneously sparing organs at risk. Nevertheless, treatment plan quality still depends on the physicist's individual skills, experiences, and personal preferences.

Semi-Automated Radiotherapy Treatment Planning with a Mathematical Model to Satisfy Treatment Goals

Medical Dosimetry, 1989
Iterative algorithms can provide a feasible solution, if any exists, to specified treatment goals. Our model subdivides both the patient's cross section into a fine grid of points and the radiation beam into a set of "pencil" rays. The anatomy, treatment machine parameters, dose limits and homogeneity, are all defined. This process of subdivision leads

Automated radiotherapy treatment plan integrity verification.

Medical physics, 2013
In our clinic, physicists spend from 15 to 60 min to verify the physical and dosimetric integrity of radiotherapy plans before presentation to radiation oncology physicians for approval. The purpose of this study was to design and implement a framework to automate as many elements of this quality control (QC) step as possible.A comprehensive computer ...
