Recurrent Hypothermia and Autonomic Dysfunction Secondary to Shapiro Syndrome

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A 44‐year‐old man presented with recurrent hypothermia, diaphoresis and hypertension. Extensive investigation for infectious, inflammatory, metabolic and endocrine aetiologies was negative. MR scan of the brain demonstrated no lesions but revealed callosal dysgenesis, consistent with Shapiro syndrome.

Long‐Term Efficacy of Immunotherapy in Autoimmune Autonomic Ganglionopathy—A 10‐Year Follow Up Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Autoimmune autonomic ganglionopathy (AAG) is a rare but potentially treatable cause of severe autonomic failure. Evidence guiding long‐term immunotherapy, treatment sequencing, and residual autonomic impairment is limited. We evaluated long‐term treatment response, residual autonomic dysfunction, and relapse patterns in patients with

Assessing severity of involvement of autonomic functions in iron-deficiency anemia patients

open access: yesNational Journal of Physiology, Pharmacy and Pharmacology, 2019
Background: Iron-deficiency anemia (IDA) is one of the most frequently found anemias in all countries. In India itself, 60–70% of population has IDA. Autonomic dysfunctions are common in anemias so also in IDAs.

Associations of Sleep and Shift Work With Osteoarthritis Risk

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Daily rhythms may be critical for maintaining homeostasis of joint tissues. We aimed to investigate the relationships among circadian clock disruption, sleep, and osteoarthritis (OA) risk in humans. Methods In the UK Biobank, a prospective 500,000–person cohort, we evaluated associations among sleep duration, sleeplessness/insomnia, and shift

Autonomic dysfunction in women with fibromyalgia [PDF]

open access: yesArthritis Research & Therapy, 2012
Fibromyalgia (FM) is an idiopathic disease characterized by widespread pain and a myriad of symptoms. Symptoms are diverse and include not only pain but also anxiety, depression, orthostatic intolerance, and cold intolerance. While the etiology of FM is not fully understood, data have suggested that FM may stem from dysfunction of the autonomic nervous
