Validation of a checklist-style intervention for mitigation of availability bias in professional designers

open access: yesDesign Science
In this study, professional engineers and designers (n = 30) participated in a 1-hour-long design activity in which they brainstormed a list of ideas for two design problems (a smart grill and a smart laundry machine), created a sketched concept for each

Disordered but rhythmic—the role of intrinsic protein disorder in eukaryotic circadian timing

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Unstructured domains known as intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) are present in nearly every part of the eukaryotic core circadian oscillator. IDRs enable many diverse inter‐ and intramolecular interactions that support clock function. IDR conformations are highly tunable by post‐translational modifications and environmental conditions, which ...

THE BENCHMARK OF INVESTOR DECISIONS TO INVEST IN THE INITIAL PUBLIC OFFERING (IPO)

open access: yesRiset Akuntansi dan Keuangan Indonesia, 2019
This study aims to examine how the influence of benchmarks used by investors in the process of making investment decisions during the IPO. The dependent variable in this study is the investment decision while the independent variable is financial ...

Quantum Amplitude Amplification Algorithm: An Explanation of Availability Bias [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In this article, I show that a recent family of quantum algorithms, based on the quantum amplitude amplification algorithm, can be used to describe a cognitive heuristic called availability bias. The amplitude amplification algorithm is used to define quantitatively the ease of a memory task, while the quantum amplitude estimation and the quantum ...

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

“I Think I Do but I Don’t”: Heightened (Breast) Cancer Concern as a Function of Availability Bias

open access: yesWomen
Background: Women report a heightened concern of (breast) cancer, relative to other chronic conditions. This experimental study investigated whether such heightened concern may be a function of availability bias.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Analyses of the sensitivity of multi-constellation advanced receiver autonomous integrity monitoring vertical protection level availability to error parameters and a failure model over China

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2018
The availability of advanced receiver autonomous integrity monitoring for vertical guidance down to altitudes of 200 ft (LPV-200) is discussed using real satellite orbit/ephemeris data collected at eight international global navigation satellite system ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...
