SSP Algorithm for Available Bandwidth Estimation

2006 International Conference on Communication Technology, 2006
Available bandwidth is an important concept in network. Estimation for an end-to-end available bandwidth can help us to design overlay networks and end-system multicast, manage QoS and verify service level agreements. Although several estimation tools and techniques are proposed recently, more research is needed to improve them.

A bandwidth adaptive method for estimating end-to-end available bandwidth

2008 11th IEEE Singapore International Conference on Communication Systems, 2008
The probe gap model (PGM) was proposed as a lightweight and fast available bandwidth estimation method. Compared to the probe rate model (PRM) which requires multiple iterations with different probing rates, PGM uses a single probing rate and infers the available bandwidth from the relationship between the input and output rates of probing packet pairs.

ABEst: an available bandwidth estimator within an autonomous system

Global Telecommunications Conference, 2002. GLOBECOM '02. IEEE, 2003
The explosive growth of the Internet has induced a need for developing tools to understand the composition and dynamics of the Internet traffic. Measurements of the various characteristics of a network provide insight into the state and performance of the network whether it is behaving as expected and whether changes in the network have improved or ...

Leveraging Frame Aggregation for Estimating WiFi Available Bandwidth

2017 14th Annual IEEE International Conference on Sensing, Communication, and Networking (SECON), 2017
WiFi has emerged as a pivotal technology for mobile devices offering the potential for exceptional connectivity speeds. Unfortunately, the performance of WiFi may vary significantly making WiFi link characterization (and more broadly the path characterization) an essential element of the user Quality of Experience (QoE).

An Algorithm for Available Bandwidth Estimation of IPv6 Network

2010
Based on the analysis of the measurement principle of IPv4 network bandwidth and with the combination of the next-generation network protocol IPv6, we put forward a one-way and different-length packet pair subtraction algorithm for available bandwidth estimation of IPv6 network.

Experimental and Analytical Evaluation of Available Bandwidth Estimation Tools

Proceedings. 2006 31st IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks, 2006
In this paper, we present a low cost and flexible testbed to evaluate the performance of available bandwidth estimation tools in a common and controlled environment. In addition, we include a model based on a network of M/M/1 queues to have an analytical reference to compare the experiments with.

Machine learning-based available bandwidth estimation

2019
Today’s Internet Protocol (IP), the Internet’s network-layer protocol, provides a best-effort service to all users without any guaranteed bandwidth. However, for certain applications that have stringent network performance requirements in terms of bandwidth, it is significantly important to provide Quality of Ser- vice (QoS) guarantees in IP networks ...

Adaptive available bandwidth estimation for internet video streaming

Signal Processing: Image Communication, 2006
In this study, an adaptive available bandwidth estimation approach that is suitable for Internet video streaming is developed. The algorithm exploits repetitive measurements and uses this redundancy to improve its video adaptation decision. The importance of available bandwidth estimation in Internet applications has recently increased particularly ...

Statistical estimation of internal available bandwidth

Journal of Statistical Computation and Simulation, 2008
This paper presents a method for using end-to-end available bandwidth measurements in order to estimate available bandwidth on individual internal links. The basic approach is to use a power transform on the observed end-to-end measurements, model the result as a mixture of spatially correlated exponential random variables, carryout estimation by ...

UANM: a platform for experimenting with available bandwidth estimation tools

The IEEE symposium on Computers and Communications, 2010
In the field of network monitoring and measurement, the efficiency and accuracy of the adopted tools is strongly dependent on (i) structural and dynamic characteristics of the network scenario under measure and (ii) on manual fine tuning of the involved parameters.
