Multifunctional Metasurfaces for Bridging Terahertz Waves in Free Space and Waveguides

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, EarlyView.
A multifunctional terahertz metasurface capable of simultaneous orthogonal polarization conversion and phase modulation is integrated onto a dielectric slab waveguide, thereby enabling efficient free‐space‐to‐guided‐wave coupling. By implementing tailored phase gradients on the metasurface, we demonstrate the formation of a focused spot within the ...

Improved frequency divider employs transistor avalanche effect [PDF]

open access: yes, 1967
New frequency divider circuit can be synchronized over a wider input control frequency range, has greater phase stability, and is less sensitive to temperature changes than conventional synchronized oscillators.

Physics of multi-GEM structures

open access: yes, 2002
We show that physics of multi-GEM structures is rather complex, regarding the number of phenomena affecting detector performance. The high-pressure operation in noble gases and the ion feedback are considered in more detail.

A Review of Transient Characterization Techniques for Quantum Dot Light‐Emitting Diodes

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, EarlyView.
This review surveys transient characterization techniques for quantum dot light‐emitting diodes, including TRPL, TREL, TA, and E‐TA. These methods resolve carrier‐selective dynamics across multiple time scales, enabling direct analysis of charge injection, exciton formation and recombination, efficiency roll‐off, and device degradation.

Uncovering avalanche sources via acceleration measurements

open access: yesNature Communications
Avalanche sources describe rapid and local events that govern deformation processes in various materials. The fundamental differences between an avalanche source and its associated measured acoustic emission (AE) signal are encoded in the acoustic ...

Topographic curvature effects in applied avalanche modeling

open access: yesCold Regions Science and Technology, 2012
Abstract This paper describes the implementation of topographic curvature effects within the RApid Mass MovementS (RAMMS) snow avalanche simulation toolbox. RAMMS is based on a model similar to shallow water equations with a Coulomb friction relation and the velocity dependent Voellmy drag. It is used for snow avalanche risk assessment in Switzerland.

Practical fast gate rate InGaAs/InP single-photon avalanche photodiodes

open access: yes, 2009
We present a practical and easy-to-implement method for high-speed near infrared single-photon detection based on InGaAs/InP single-photon avalanche photodiodes (SPADs), combining aspects of both sine gating and self-differencing techniques.
