Characterization of the Hamamatsu S8664 Avalanche Photodiode for X-Ray and VUV-light detection
We present the first operation of the Avalanche Photodiode (APD) from Hamamatsu to xenon scintillation light and to direct X-rays of 22.1 keV and 5.9 keV. A large non-linear response was observed for the direct X-ray detection.

Enhanced Spectral Amplitude Coding OCDMA System Utilizing a Single Photodiode Detection
In this paper, the performance of a spectral amplitude coding-optical code division multiple access (SAC-OCDMA) system is investigated utilizing a single photodiode (SPD) detection technique. The proposed system uses enhanced double weight (EDW) codes as

Direct Measurement of Fast Transients by Using Boot-strapped Waveform Averaging
An approximation to coherent sampling, also known as boot-strapped waveform averaging, is presented. The method uses digital cavities to determine the condition for coherent sampling. It can be used to increase the effective sampling rate of a repetitive

Impact-ionization and noise characteristics of thin III-V avalanche photodiodes [PDF]
It is, by now, well known that McIntyre\u27s localized carrier-multiplication theory cannot explain the suppression of excess noise factor observed in avalanche photodiodes (APDs) that make use of thin multiplication regions.

Avalanche amplification of a single exciton in a semiconductor nanowire
Interfacing single photons and electrons is a crucial ingredient for sharing quantum information between remote solid-state qubits. Semiconductor nanowires offer the unique possibility to combine optical quantum dots with avalanche photodiodes, thus ...

Unified Pulsed Laser Range Finder and Velocimeter using Ultra-Fast Time-To-Digital Converter
In this paper, we present a high accuracy laser range finder and velocimeter using ultra-fast time-to-digital converter (TDC). The system operation is based on the measuring the round-trip time of a narrow laser pulse.

Analysis of noise and its characteristics in avalanche photodiode
Avalanche photodiodes (APDs) produce noise during operation, which affects the device performance. However, the previous research on its noise is mainly theoretical analysis and is only reflected as optical noise.
