Movement measurements at home for multiple sclerosis: walking speed measured by a novel ambient measurement system

open access: yesMultiple Sclerosis Journal - Experimental, Translational and Clinical, 2018
Background Gait disturbance is a major contributor to clinical disability in multiple sclerosis (MS). A sensor was developed to assess walking speed at home for people with MS using infrared technology in real-time without the use of wearables. Objective

Engineering peptides into antibodies—opportunities and strategies for therapeutic innovation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Peptides and antibodies occupy complementary therapeutic niches. Peptides recognize difficult targets in a compact format, while antibodies add specificity, long half‐life, and effector functions. This review examines strategies that merge both modalities—peptide grafting into loops, terminal and Fc fusions, and bioconjugation—highlighting how ...

BMI variability and cardiovascular outcomes within clinical trial and real-world environments in type 2 diabetes: an IMI2 SOPHIA study

open access: yesCardiovascular Diabetology
Background BMI variability has been associated with increased cardiovascular disease risk in individuals with type 2 diabetes, however comparison between clinical studies and real-world observational evidence has been lacking.

The microbiome in human skin aging

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐related skin changes encompass the well‐known visible phenotypic alterations, together with microbiome dysbiosis and a series of molecular aging hallmarks. These hallmarks characterize not only a fully stablished aged phenotype but also the skin aging process itself.

Development of a VSS-EWMA chart for coefficient of variation with application to production process

open access: yesScientific Reports
This study introduces a novel Variable Sample Size Exponentially Weighted Moving Average (VSS-EWMA) control chart for monitoring the coefficient of variation, termed as Dynamic Adaptive CV (DACV) chart. Tailored for dynamic production settings where both

A method for the dynamic management of genetic variability in dairy cattle

open access: yesGenetics Selection Evolution, 2004
According to the general approach developed in this paper, dynamic management of genetic variability in selected populations of dairy cattle is carried out for three simultaneous purposes: procreation of young bulls to be further progeny-tested, use of ...

Golgi enzymes are retrieved from the plasma membrane to the trans‐Golgi network

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Golgi enzymes are traditionally considered resident proteins retained within the Golgi apparatus. Here, we demonstrate that a subset transiently reaches the cell surface and is subsequently retrieved to the trans‐Golgi network via retrograde transport. Using a nanobody‐based toolkit, we uncover a dynamic trafficking cycle of several Golgi enzymes.

Partial depletion of plasminogen activator inhibitor‐1 decreases subcutaneous fat cell hypertrophy and liver cholesterol in high‐fat‐fed female mice

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.

Association of hemodynamic variability during endovascular stroke treatment with functional outcome and parenchymal hemorrhage

open access: yesTherapeutic Advances in Neurological Disorders
Background: Higher blood pressure variability (BPV) in patients suffering from acute ischemic stroke were shown to be associated with worse functional outcome and hemorrhagic transformation.

Relationship Between Short-Term Blood Pressure Variability and Incidence of Acute Kidney Injury in Critically Ill Patients

open access: yesKidney & Blood Pressure Research, 2017
Background/Aims: Blood pressure (BP) variability is associated with cardiovascular events, and cerebral and renal damage. The aim of this study was to investigate any potential relationship between short-term BP variability and incidence of acute onset ...
