Quantifying Computational Effort Required for Stochastic Averages [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Theory and Computation, 2014
We propose a measure that quantifies the effort needed to compute a given stochastic average, considered in the context of molecular modeling. This "difficulty index" is defined in terms of CPU time, observed uncertainty, and a characteristic scale for the quantity being computed.

Dietary Reference Values for vitamin B6

open access: yesEFSA Journal, 2016
Following a request from the European Commission, the EFSA Panel on Dietetic Products, Nutrition and Allergies (NDA) derives Dietary Reference Values (DRVs) for vitamin B6. The Panel considers that plasma pyridoxal 5′‐phosphate (PLP) concentration is the

A STUDY OF THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE AVERAGE PROSPECTIVE MEDICAL STUDENT IN 1892. [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Medical Association, 1893
It has been often questioned whether the average medical student is better educated to-day than ten years ago or not. Not knowing the species then, I cannot answer. I happen to have in my possession evidence of the scholarship of the average man who proposes to study medicine to-day.

Using Wait-time Thresholds to Improve Mobility: The Case of UberWAV Services in Toronto

open access: yesFindings, 2020
We examine the wait-time of Uber’s wheelchair accessible service (UberWAV) in Toronto, to determine whether it meets the City’s 11-minutes average wait-time requirement.

Dynamic average consensus under limited control authority and privacy requirements [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Robust and Nonlinear Control, 2014
SummaryThis paper introduces a novel continuous‐time dynamic average consensus algorithm for networks whose interaction is described by a strongly connected and weight‐balanced directed graph. The proposed distributed algorithm allows agents to track the average of their dynamic inputs with some steady‐state error whose size can be controlled using a ...

Requirements to Determine the Average Pore Size of Nanoporous Media Using Ultrasound [PDF]

open access: yesACS Omega, 2018
Liquids in nanoporous media are exposed to an adsorption-induced pressure, a consequence of the interaction with the pore surface. The smaller the pore diameter, d P, the higher the pressure at saturation and thus the bulk modulus of the confined liquid.

Ventral extra-striate cortical areas are required for optimal orientation averaging [PDF]

open access: yesVision Research, 2007
We examined the ability of a previously well-studied patient with visual agnosia to compute the average orientation of elements in visual displays. In a structural MRI study, we show that the lesion is likely to involve a variety of ventral extra-striate areas, including V2, V3 and V4; however, the lesion does not extend dorsally.

Differences between Yaks and Qaidam Cattle in Digestibilities of Nutrients and Ruminal Concentration of Volatile Fatty Acids Are not Dependent on Feed Level

open access: yesFermentation, 2022
The Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau (QTP) is characterized by highly fluctuating seasonal pastures. Yaks (Bos grunniens) graze at higher altitudes than Qaidam cattle (Bos taurus), but the two bovine species co-graze in their overlapping ranges.
