Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Averaging of Linear Quadratic Parabolic Optimal Control Problem

open access: yesAxioms
This paper studies an averaged Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) problem for a parabolic partial differential equation (PDE), where the system dynamics are affected by uncertain parameters.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Tuning Mechanism and Parameter Optimization of a Dynamic Vibration Absorber with Inerter and Negative Stiffness Under Delayed FOPID

open access: yesMathematics
The dynamic vibration absorber (DVA) based on delayed fractional PID (DFOPID) can achieve a more superior vibration suppression effect. However, the strong nonlinear characteristics of the system and the computational burden resulting from its high ...

Finding the Optimal Multimodel Averaging Method for Global Hydrological Simulations

open access: yes, 2021
Global gridded precipitations have been extensively considered as the input of hydrological models for runoff simulations around the world. However, the limitations of hydrologic models and the inaccuracies of the precipitation datasets could result in ...

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Validation of Dollar cost averaging investment method

open access: yes, 2011
As a method of long term investment for private investor, the dollar cost averaging investment method is well known and seems to reduce the purchase cost because we purchase risk assets with same amount of monye every month, then we purchase many assets ...
