Leukemia and Exposure to Potential Benzene Sources in Children From the Mexico City Metropolitan Area, 2010–2021: A Geospatial Analysis

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Leukemia is the most common childhood cancer in Mexico, and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most frequent subtype. Exposure to high concentrations of benzene has been associated with ALL incidence, particularly in urban areas. This study evaluated the relationship between distance to benzene emission sources and the number

Limit cycles for a class of polynomial differential systems

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations, 2016
In this paper, we consider the limit cycles of a class of polynomial differential systems of the form $\dot{x}=-y^{2p-1},\ \dot{y}=x^{2mp-1}+\varepsilon(px^{2mp}+qy^{2p})(g(x,y)-A)$, where $g(x,y)$ is a polynomial.

A general averaging theory via series expansions [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 2003 American Control Conference, 2003., 2004
This paper generalizes averaging theory to arbitrary order by synthesizing series expansion methods for nonlinear time-varying vector fields and their flows with nonlinear Floquet theory. A companion paper uses these results to construct exponentially stabilizing controllers for underactuated nonlinear systems.

Early Impact of Childhood Opportunity on Neurocognitive Outcomes in Sickle Cell Disease

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Neurocognitive impairment is a well‐recognized complication of sickle cell disease (SCD) that begins early in childhood and persists across development. While cerebrovascular injury contributes substantially to risk, neurocognitive deficits are also observed in children without overt or silent cerebral infarctions, suggesting ...

Period annulus of the harmonic oscillator with zero cyclicity under perturbations with a homogeneous polynomial field

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations, 2019
In this work we prove, using averaging theory at any order in the small perturbation parameter, that the period annulus of the harmonic oscillator has cyclicity zero (no limit cycles bifurcate) when it is perturbed by any fixed homogeneous polynomial ...

The Relationship Between Physical Activity and Left Ventricular Remodeling in Childhood Cancer Survivors Treated With Anthracyclines: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Anthracycline‐related cardiac remodeling precedes heart failure in childhood cancer survivors. The objectives of this study were to determine the relationships between patient‐specific factors, moderate‐to‐vigorous physical activity (MVPA), and cardiac remodeling.

Childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Survival in Western Kenya: Reduction in Early Deaths and Treatment Abandonment

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background An earlier study on children diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Kenya reported a low event‐free survival (EFS), excess treatment abandonment, and high induction mortality.

Periodic solutions for a class of perturbed sixth-order autonomous differential equations [PDF]

open access: yesArab Journal of Mathematical Sciences
Purpose – The objective of this work is to study the periodic solutions for a class of sixth-order autonomous ordinary differential equations x(6)+(1+p2+q2)x… .+(p2+q2+p2q2)x¨+p2q2x=εF(x,ẋ,x¨,x…,x… .,x(5)), where p and q are rational numbers different ...

Solid Pseudopapillary Neoplasm of the Pancreas in Children and Adolescents: Expert Recommendations

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Solid pseudopapillary neoplasm of the pancreas (SPN) is a rare low‐grade malignant exocrine pancreatic tumor, mostly discovered during the second decade of life in females, with a very good prognosis, provided microscopically complete surgical excision is achieved.

Admixture Mapping Reveals Candidate Regions for Methotrexate Neurotoxicity Susceptibility: A Reducing Disparities in Acute Leukemia Consortium Report

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Neurotoxicity is a rare, often dose‐limiting adverse effect of methotrexate (MTX) therapy that disproportionally affects Latino children. Factors contributing to the observed disparity are not well understood. This study leveraged admixture mapping to identify genetic regions associated with MTX‐related neurotoxicity susceptibility ...
