Human Optical Axial Length and Defocus [PDF]

open access: yesInvestigative Opthalmology & Visual Science, 2010
To investigate the short-term influence of imposed monocular defocus on human optical axial length (the distance from anterior cornea to retinal pigment epithelium) and ocular biometrics.Twenty-eight young adult subjects (14 myopes, 14 emmetropes) had eye biometrics measured before and 30 and 60 minutes after exposure to monocular (right eye) defocus ...

Pterygium Is Related to Short Axial Length

open access: yesCornea, 2019
Purpose: To test the hypothesis that pterygium presents with both refractive and anatomical changes, especially short axial length. Methods: A retrospective, hospital-based cross-sectional study included 521 eyes from 521 patients who were enrolled through a community survey by ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Use baseline axial length measurements in myopic patients to predict the control of myopia with and without atropine 0.01.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
PurposeIdentifying axial length growth rate as an indicator of fast progression before initiating atropine 0.01% for myopia progression in children.MethodFrom baseline, axial length growth over six months was measured prospectively.
