Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Vitamin D Analogues and Fracture Risk in Chronic Kidney Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

open access: yesJBMR Plus, 2022
Vitamin D receptor agonists (VDRAs) are commonly prescribed in chronic kidney disease (CKD). However, their protective effects on bone remain controversial.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Numerical simulation in vertical wind axis turbine with pitch controlled blades [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Wind energy is more and more used as a renewable energy source character. The present wind turbine is a small one which allows to be used on roofs or in gardens to light small areas like publicity boards, parking, roads or for water pumping, heating ...

Elite coaches have a similar prevalence of depressive symptoms to the general population and lower rates than elite athletes

open access: yesBMJ Open Sport & Exercise Medicine, 2020
Objective The primary aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of depressive symptoms and life stress in elite coaches. The secondary aim was to explore the associations of depressive symptoms and life stress with demographic and lifestyle ...

Neospora caninum is a cause of perinatal mortality in axis deer (Axis axis)

open access: yesVeterinary Parasitology, 2014
Neospora caninum is a worldwide distributed protozoan that may cause neuromuscular disease in dogs and reproductive failure in domestic and wild ruminants. One axis fawn (Axis axis) and four neonates from the same deer herd died at a zoo in Argentina within a four-month period.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Performance of a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine under Accelerating and Decelerating Flows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Rapid increase in global energy requirements has resulted in considerable attention towards energy generation from the renewable energy sources. In order to meet renewable energy targets, harnessing energy from all available resources including those ...

Medial Axis and Singularities [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Geometric Analysis, 2017
This paper is devoted to the study of the medial axes of sets definable in polynomially bounded o-minimal structures, i.e. the sets of points with more than one closest point with respect to the Euclidean distance. Our point of view is that of singularity theory.
