Determination of dynamic axle load using suspension deflection method for the load distribution optimisation of multi-axle vehicles

open access: yesInternational Journal of Vehicle Design, 2019
Identification of dynamic axle loads in multiple axle vehicles requires complex calculation methods because of its hyper static solving necessity. In this study, suspension deflection method is proposed to determine the dynamic axle loads for optimisation of load distribution of a multi-axle vehicle having more than two axles.

Development of a Model for Equivalent Axle Load Factors

open access: yesProceedings of the Eighth International Conference on Maintenance and Rehabilitation of Pavements, 2016
Design methods for road pavements uses the traffic, based on the transformation of the traffic spectrum, to be calculated into a number of equivalent passages of a standard axle using the equivalent axle load factors. Usually, these factors only consider the type of axle (single, tandem or tridem), but they do not consider the type of wheel on the ...

Indirect measurement of axle load

2016 18th International Wheelset Congress (IWC), 2016
In railway rolling stock, the axle is an important part. The damage of the axle is directly related to the occurrence of major accidents, especially in the high speed rolling stock. With the increase of wheel speed, the lateral and vertical vibration loads increased. Therefore, all these have put forward higher demand to the strength of axle.

Multiple axle loadings. Shape parameters and their effect on the fatigue life of asphalt mixtures

European Journal of Environmental and Civil engineering, 2011
ABSTRACT The effect of multiple axle loads on the fatigue life of asphalt pavements is a key issue dealing with the effect of heavy trucks on pavement distresses. Equivalent Single Axle loads are currently calculated with simplified hypotheses. This is an important stake for the ecological transportation: increasing the load per truck results in ...

Increasing axle loads on railway bridges

Stahlbau, 1998

Introduction of Heavy Axle Loads

Journal of the Transportation Research Forum, 2013
The Association of American Railroads (AAR) initiated the Heavy Axle Load (HAL) Research Program in 1988 in order to “provide guidance to the North American railroad industry about whether to increase axle loads and to determine the most economic payload consistent with safety” (Kalay and Martland 2001).
