Statistical Analysis of Axle Load Distributions in India

In this investigation, the axle load data for a particular stretch of National Highway (NH-58) in India was collected and statistical analysis was carried out. A lognormal and Weibull distribution was found to fit the single axles whereas lognormal mixed distribution was found to fit the tandem axles.

Weigh-in-motion of wheel, axle and vehicle loads

For road design and maintenance purposes, it is necessary to know the loads produced by vehicles in traffic. These loads can be obtained by static weighing of a sample of vehicles diverted from the traffic. Weighing in motion is developing and should make it possible to establish statistical distributions of realistic dynamic loads.
