Fizzy: feature subset selection for metagenomics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BACKGROUND: Some of the current software tools for comparative metagenomics provide ecologists with the ability to investigate and explore bacterial communities using α- & β-diversity. Feature subset selection - a sub-field of machine learning - can also

Susceptibility of Different Instars of Striacosta albicosta (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) to Vip3A, a Bacillus thuringiensis (Bacillaceae: Bacillales) Protein

open access: yesJournal of Economic Entomology, 2019
Abstract Striacosta albicosta (Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is an important pest of corn, Zea mays L. in the Great Lakes region, which can be controlled by transgenic corn expressing Vip3A protein from Bacillus thuringiensis. To inform insect resistance management, the susceptibility, survival, and development of first, third, and ...

Eco-friendly bio-larvicidal and antimicrobial activity of isolated bioactive compound from Kurthia gibsonii (Bacillales)

open access: yesNatural Product Research
The targeted organisms include mosquito vectors, bacterial pathogens and non-targeted organisms. Preliminary mosquito larvicidal activity was conducted using cell-free supernatants (CFSs) from 11 gut bacteria. Among them, the bacterium SS11 exhibited promising results and was identified as Kurthia gibsonii based on its 16S rRNA sequence (1350 bp).
