Efficient Isolation and Identification of Bacillus cereus Group

open access: yesJournal of AOAC INTERNATIONAL, 2012
Abstract Bacillus cereus is a group of ubiquitous facultative anaerobic sporeforming Gram-positive rods commonly found in soil. The spores frequently contaminate a variety of foods, including produce, meat, eggs, and dairy products. Foodborne illnesses associated with toxins produced by B.

Comparison of two optical-density-based methods and a plate count method for estimation of growth parameters of Bacillus cereus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Quantitative microbiological models predicting proliferation of microorganisms relevant for food safety and/or food stability are useful tools to limit the need for generation of biological data through challenge testing and shelf-life testing.

Rapid Identification of Bacillus anthracis In Silico and On-Site Using Novel Single-Nucleotide Polymorphisms

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2022
Bacillus anthracis is a spore-forming bacterium that causes life-threatening infections in animals and humans and has been used as a bioterror agent. Rapid and reliable detection and identification of B. anthracis are of primary interest for both medical

Novel sigmaB regulation modules of Gram-positive bacteria involve the use of complex hybrid histidine kinases. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Contains fulltext : 97170.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access)A common bacterial strategy to cope with stressful conditions is the activation of alternative sigma factors that control specific regulons enabling targeted responses.

Characterization of a spore-specific protein of the Bacillus cereus group [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 2012
Bc1245 is a monocistronic chromosomal gene of Bacillus cereus ATCC 14579 encoding a putative protein of 143 amino acids identified in this study to have a spore-related function in B. cereus. Bc1245 is highly conserved in the genome of members of the B. cereus group, indicating an important function of the gene in this group of bacteria.

Comparing nonsynergy gamma models and interaction models to predict growth of emetic Bacillus cereus for combinations of pH and water activity values [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This research aims to test the absence (gamma hypothesis) or occurrence of synergy between two growth-limiting factors, i.e., pH and water activity (aw), using a systematic approach for model selection.

Bacillus-infecting bacteriophage Izhevsk harbors thermostable endolysin with broad range specificity.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
Several bacterial species belonging to the Bacillus cereus group are known to be causative agents of food poisoning and severe human diseases. Bacteriophages and their lytic enzymes called endolysins have been widely shown to provide for a supplemental ...

No Assembly Required: Using BTyper3 to Assess the Congruency of a Proposed Taxonomic Framework for the Bacillus cereus Group With Historical Typing Methods

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
The Bacillus cereus group, also known as B. cereus sensu lato (s.l.), is a species complex comprising numerous closely related lineages, which vary in their ability to cause illness in humans and animals. The classification of B. cereus s.l.
