Antimicrobial peptide expression in a wild tobacco plant reveals the limits of host-microbe-manipulations in the field [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Plant-microbe associations are thought to be beneficial for plant growth and resistance against biotic or abiotic stresses, but for natural ecosystems, the ecological analysis of microbiome function remains in its infancy.

Highly Efficient Biodegradation of Postconsumer Polylactic Acid Waste: The First Report on Priestia aryabhattai SNRUSAC3 and a Newly Isolated Bacillus sp. SNRUSAC1

open access: yesInternational Journal of Microbiology, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
The increasing use of polylactic acid (PLA) for single‐use packaging has led to a growing accumulation of bioplastic waste. This study presents a comprehensive approach for enhancing the degradation of postconsumer PLA packaging waste, beginning with the isolation, screening, and identification of highly effective bacteria and culminating in the ...

Nonlinear behavior of vibrating molecules on suspended graphene waveguides

open access: yes, 2012
Suspended graphene waveguides were deposited on micron-scale periodic metal (plasmonic) structures. Raman scattering of test molecules (B. Megaterium), deposited on the waveguides' surface, exhibited azimuthal cycles upon rotation: at these micron scales,

Characteristics of a Bacillus megaterium Bacteriophage

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 1975
A bacteriophage which infects and lyses Bacillus megaterium ATCC 19213 was isolated from the soil. The phage produces lysis on nine strains of B, megaterium tested but did not lyse a Bacillus cereus or Bacillus licheniformis strain, nor any of eight Bacillus subtilis strains tested.

2, 5‐Diketopiperazine Derivatives From Coculture of Escherichia coli and Mogroside V

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Escherichia coli (E. coli), a versatile bacterium, is also recognized for its ability to produce a range of secondary metabolites with significant biological activities. Especially in so‐called biotransformation processes, E. coli is frequently utilized to catalyze the conversion of substrate molecules into diverse compounds through biosynthesis and ...

Update of the list of qualified presumption of safety (QPS) recommended microbiological agents intentionally added to food or feed as notified to EFSA 23: Suitability of taxonomic units notified to EFSA until September 2025

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 24, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract The qualified presumption of safety (QPS) process was developed to provide a harmonised safety assessment approach to support EFSA Scientific Panels and Units. The QPS approach assesses the taxonomic identity, body of relevant knowledge and safety of microorganisms intentionally added to the food and feed chain.

Occurrence, distribution and genetic diversity of soil Phosphate Solubilizing Bacteria in soils of different chemical characteristics in Kenya [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Phosphorus (P) availability in many soils is limited by high fixation and precipitation reactions, rendering it inaccessible for plant uptake. The ability to convert insoluble forms of P to an accessible form is an important trait in plant growth ...
