Innovative Integration of Layered Carbon Materials in Biopolymer Fibrous Membranes for Sustainable Water Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, EarlyView.
This review explores the progressive design of biopolymer‐based fibrous membranes enhanced with layered carbon materials such as MXene, graphene oxide, and carbon nanotubes. It highlights how their integration significantly boosts water filtration performance, selectivity, and antifouling properties.

From a thin film model for passive suspensions towards the description of osmotic biofilm spreading

open access: yes, 2016
Biofilms are ubiquitous macro-colonies of bacteria that develop at various interfaces (solid-liquid, solid-gas or liquid-gas). The formation of biofilms starts with the attachment of individual bacteria to an interface, where they proliferate and produce

Self‐Adjusting Engineered Probiotic for Targeted Tumor Colonization and Local Therapeutics Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Zou et al. developed an engineered strain of Escherichia coli Nissle 1917 with precise targeting abilities for colonization and on‐demand payload release. The engineered probiotic survives and embolizes tumors only in the presence of more than 5 mM L‐lactate. Furthermore, the introduction of an α‐hemolysin circuit enhances its anti‐tumor effect.

A Bacillus subtilis gene encoding a protein similar to nucleotide sugar transferases influences cell shape and viability [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1997
Bacillus subtilis gene ypfP, which is located at 196 degrees on the genetic map, shows similarity to both the monogalactosyldiacylglycerol synthase gene of Cucumis sativus, which encodes a galactosyltransferase, and the murG genes of B. subtilis, Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenzae, and Synechocystis sp.

Colonic Submucosa Targeted Delivery of Probiotic and Rhein for Ulcerative Colitis Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel orally drug‐probiotic co‐delivery system designated as Rh‐YBS for UC treatment, which highlights three innovations: (i) YPs involves colonic submucosa delivery via M cells; (ii) Rh (drug) promotes the colonization and growth of BS (probiotic) in the colon.

Avoiding Premature Oxidation During the Binding of Cu(II) to a Dithiolate Site in BsSCO. A Rapid Freeze-Quench EPR Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The Bacillus subtilis version of SCO1 (BsSCO) is required for assembly of CuA in cytochrome c oxidase and may function in thiol-disulfide exchange and/or copper delivery.
