Painting Peptides With Antimicrobial Potency Through Deep Reinforcement Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
AMPainter is a powerful design model for ’painting’ the antimicrobial potency on any given peptide sequence, based on the strategy of virtual directed evolution and deep reinforcement learning. Abstract In the post‐antibiotic era, antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are considered ideal drug candidates because of their lower likelihood of inducing resistance.

YvcK, a protein required for cell wall integrity and optimal carbon source utilization, binds uridine diphosphate-sugars

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
In Bacillus subtilis, Listeria monocytogenes and in two Mycobacteria, it was previously shown that yvcK is a gene required for normal cell shape, for optimal carbon source utilization and for virulence of pathogenic bacteria.

Differently Shaped Hard Body Colloids in Confinement: From passive to active particles

open access: yes, 2013
We review recent progress in the theoretical description of anisotropic hard colloidal particles. The shapes considered range from rods and dumbbells to rounded cubes, polyhedra and to biaxial particles with arbitrary shape.

Dynamic Profiling of Lipoteichoic Acid (LTA) and/or Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) Positive Extracellular Vesicles in Plasma as Diagnostic and Prognostic Biomarkers for Bacterial Infection

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using nano‐flow cytometry, this study analyzes the dynamic characteristics of lipoteichoic acid (LTA) and/or lipopolysaccharide (LPS) positive extracellular vesicles in the bloodstream of patients with bacterial infections, providing promising biomarkers for rapid and accurate diagnosis.

MoMtg1 Acts as a Novel Transcriptional Repressor of MoSwi6 During Appressorium‐Mediated Penetration in the Rice Blast Fungus

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Appressoria are specialized penetration structures for many plant pathogenic fungi, demanding precise cell cycle control. This study unveils MoMtg1 as a transcriptional repressor of MoSwi6, orchestrating MoCYC1 expression during turgor‐driven cell cycle progression to enable appressorium‐mediated penetration. Moreover, a small‐molecule inhibitor ZS1619

Highly Efficient Air Sterilization via Low‐Temperature Interfacial Evaporation in Inductively Heated Superhydrophilic Ferromagnetic Filters

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The first low‐temperature interfacial evaporation air sterilization technology is presented. It is based on a superhydrophilic ferromagnetic micro/nano‐structured stainless‐steel filter, showing ultra‐efficient inductive heating. This technology has demonstrated over 99.6% of SARS‐CoV‐2 and RSV elimination at temperatures in the 60–80 °C range.
